Your English isn't in the early stages, so I sort of fail to see the relevance. That said, yes, I've used a small amount of L-R to tackle Polish (and to a much, much lesser degree, Russian) from scratch. I haven't done enough of either, much less in a systematic enough way, to say much, other than that I can use Polish material (and, if I really have to, Russian) to a moderate degree: ie, I can read factual information (imperfectly) in Polish (such as material on German phonetics, grammars of Yiddish, or texts on language learning), watch instructional martial arts videos in Russian, etc. I am NOT good at these languages; I have put no effort into active use, and don't instantly recognize various ways to say "hello" - in other words, I am not conversational, and I cannot write them decently. My understanding is not perfect, by any means. However, for a few dozen hours of study of each, I can't say I'm unhappy with the results... I did this with no base in Slavic languages; I couldn't even read Cyrillic when I started. 1 person has voted this message useful |
