In reply to Volte:

What is this nonsense? I didn't post my reply to discuss gay rights with you! But now somehow I am guilty of violating the forum rules?

The fact is that I have never violated the rules. Apparently in the minds of people like you and Dark Sunshine, only social conservatives can violate the rules. Simply by stating our views, we are somehow disrespecting the rules. But when you liberals are then it's okay...

Even when you are making vicious accusations about other members of this forum who happen to be conservative Right-wingers or Christians by calling us fundamentalists. That somehow is not a violation of the forum rules.

I was very careful to not make my reply about gay rights; I certainly do not care to discuss the topic with you.

Rants about social conservatives, or extreme liberals, are off-topic and against forum rules.

You're assuming I'm a liberal, which is interesting: I go to some pains to not express my political views on this forum.

As it happens, I am neither a liberal nor a conservative.

I don't believe I've ever called a member of this forum a fundamentalist.

What I am asking for is simple: that the forum rules be respected, including not discussing religion and politics. This applies equally to liberals and conservatives, to Christians and to atheists, and to those of any other viewpoint.

Just like Jbbar, I too get the impression that this language forum is having too much left-wing extremist radical liberal content stuffed down its neck!

As soon as we social conservatives introduce an idea we are made to endure a liberal lecture just like this!

What is the point of this thread anyway? These days this forum seems to be full of many pointless threads like this which offer no help whatsoever to language learners and aspiring polyglots.

I get the feeling that my time would be better spent using nothing but Japanese language internet forums because the educative part of this forum has just gone down the poo pot!

Maybe I should just do something to get me banned! Become an internet terrorist or something!

Given that I'm the 'lecturer', and I've explicitly said I am not a liberal, I'm at a bit of a loss of a response to this rant.

I ask two things:
1) People respect the forum rules. If your idea is about language learning, your politics and religious views are irrelevant. If you mention them in passing - fine. If your post is politically or religiously based, also fine: as long as you post it somewhere else.

2) People show a modicum of respect to each other. That is, don't call people by labels they find objectionable. This applies equally to not calling Christian social conservatives who are not (by self-identification) fundamentalists fundamentalists, as it applies to calling gay forum members 'sexual deviants'. I've asked people to moderate themselves in the past for name-calling which hasn't been politically or religiously motivated too.

All I'm asking for is a forum where we can discuss language learning in relative peace, where basic respect is shown (you don't have to like everyone; feel free to ignore people for any reason - but please, avoid name-calling), and where the forum rules about keeping discussions about not discussing politics and religion are obeyed - there are many, many other forums where you can do so.

I don't believe that basic human respect and decency are tied to any one political ideology.

Feel free to leave. It doesn't require being banned.

Feel free to post educational threads of your own. Someone has to.

Feel free to ignore the worthless threads - I generally try to, though I did not succeed with this one.

Volte, you have taken my entire post out of context. It was in reply to the sheer nonsense that Dark Sunshine had written about other forum members. That was off-topic, it was a violation of the rules, and I made it clear to her that I wouldn't put up with such drivel because social progressives or liberals don't have the right to monopolize this forum any more than social conservatives do.

In case you hadn't noticed, that was the only post I had written in this dumb topic so far anyway.

I'm not going to argue with you further because I wasn't hijacking this thread and it's quite useless to debate with airheads who can't read anyway.

Quite possibly.

Sure. It would be wonderful if everyone would drop the drivel.

Indeed.
