I'm editing this post because it didn't add to the discussion anyway. Read my original post for my view. My point is that it's unacceptable that some forum members are accused of extremism merely for being socially conservative, right-wing or practising Christians. As long as these members discuss in a civil manner and don't violate the rules, they are entitled to their opinion and beliefs and have the right to present them in a civil manner without having to be attacked. I also replied to point out that the rules were being violated, not to violate them myself. Why would I want to hijack an already hijacked thread anyway, if you catch my drift.

Wow, you people (jbbar, Maximus) really made me share the opinion of Dark_Sunshine more than anything else. Your rants and attacks on Volte sure didn't help wash away that illegal word Dark_Sunshine used, "fundamentalist". I had no idea there were such people on this Forum, I thought that it was full of open-minded people with an interest for languages (except perhaps for the Ukrainians, since they can't help being misogynists and can't be blamed for it either, right?).
I guess this is why I must never leave the snuggly bubble that is Scandinavia. Reality is scary.

I find zocurtis questions hilarious and somehow wrong, but since I just woke up and my judgement is really bad at 6.50 in the morning, I'll answer anyway.

1. I have no idea, it's my life and I must learn languages. I love the feeling of power it gives me.
2. No, I get men to take care of those while I study. (No, that was not a joke.)
3. In no way what so ever.
4. I wanted to and then I got addicted to it.

1. I love reproducing the sounds. I love the challenge, the discipline, and the process. I'd like to travel and understand better what's going on around me, rather than have to rely on a guide book.

2. If you're trying to say that as a woman, I have "more" responsibilities than a man, then NO. But if it's a general question, yes, it's hard fitting it in between my work, interests, and other obligations. But more difficult than for a man? I don't think so.

3. Absolutely not.

4. At first, when I was living abroad, yes, but then I simply became fascinated by them.

Are my answers really that different than how a man might answer? What is the use of this information? I can't remember who the OP is, but I would like to know what the point of this exercise is? Is it to affirm in your mind that men (or women) are superior? That we're really that different? I think it's the opposite, that we're much more alike than different. But there seem to be people who like to argue. Isn't what the point of this whole thread was? To provoke arguments? Is that a trait specific to males? I think it goes both ways.

I have a question too. All other things being equal, are female language learners more attracted to men who know
several languages, monolinguals, or is it a toss-up?

1.)I was raised with the idea that languages are so important, so it never occurs to me to ask why I want to learn it, only that I ought to.

2.)Yes, it is hard, but my responsibilities are not gender-specific (I hope); I attend a university which happily gobbles up my time.

3.)Not at all!

4.)I wanted to, I guess.

Well, people who can speak multiple languages impress me, and I often view it as a sign of intelligence. My first boyfriend speaks Arabic fluently and English rather well. The guy I currently like speaks Spanish, French, and English fluently as well as knowing some Japanese and Basque. So, I think that I do prefer guys who speak multiple languages.

My final comments before I leave this thread for good:

I haven't once ranted about gay rights. I believe jbbar had the first off topic rant (possibly not on this thread) when he started going on about homosexuality being unnatural. Several other similar comments have been made in recent threads, not just by jbbar, and I haven't 'ranted' once, because it is indeed OFF-TOPIC.

So why when I make a passing comment that there have been a few right-wing Christian fundamentalist views displayed on this forum recently do I get such a bashing? It's simply the truth! I don't object to being called atheist, feminist, ultra-liberal, or left-wing, so why are you guys so offended by this label?

I do however object to sexist, personal insults such as 'airhead'.

Where is the moderator anyway? This thread has crossed so many lines it's unbelievable.
