The great irony of this entire thread is that women (on average) have a greater language ability than men, and a proven advantage in learning languages. Everybody knows this right?
It's just funny because of the assumption that the situation in an internet forum would translate into real life, as if learning languages is measured by your presence on an internet forum.
I know lots of women learning foreign languages and using foreign languages, and they are all using them for their job, for family, to go to school...basically using them in real life, while there might be more men just studying purely for the language itself. If there is a difference, I think this is the one; the solitary obsessive learning style that favors the masculine type. However this has nothing to do with the pure quanitity of language learners.

I'm not suprised that their are many female language learners but I didn't think there were many on this forum. I still think there are more men than women. Interestingly, in the Facebook group I started there are about 4-5 woman and 40 men.

Hahahaha! I am totally guilty. Every single person (except tricoteuse of course) who
said "I am female", I had thought that they were male. I owned myself.
