''The very first thing that I do is TO get hold of a language series I really like.'' (Luca)

I think it sounds more natural without TO.
L2 speakers of English overuse TO: ''What she did was TO run away.''

Both sound equally "natural" to me. I might drop the "to" when speaking casually, but I think if I were trying to speak
more clearly (such as on an education youtube video), I would speak at a slightly slower pace than normal and, as a
result, include the "to".

But, why even bring this up here?

Both are equally correct and I don't understand your intention of nitpicking in this
context. Even if Luca made a mistake in his English, this might as well have happened
to you, me, or a native speaker. Natives don't speak flawlessly either.

You can either be envious that someone speaks good English, or you can strive to be at
the same level. The fact that Eric Clapton is a much better guitar player than I am
doesn't mean I should listen to all his youtube videos to detect if he played a bum
note in "Cocaine" somewhere.

He is a very accomplished polyglot and the learning methods he proposes are realistic.

However, one cannot expect to become as good as him, it HAS to do with talent.

I don't really agree with that. I he can do it, I could, you too. I'm just not as disciplined as he is, and that's fine because it's not my goal, at least for now.

Don't think too little of yourself, we all could get there if we spent the same amount of time (and the same methods) Luca spends everyday learning languages.
