mos maiorum Latin
Literally:"moral of the ancestors" but it means all those ideas about behaviour which
made a Romane "true", such as loyalty to country, courage, contempt of death, respect of
gods and austerity.

ἀρετή (arete) Greek
Moral Excellence, Virtue:
1) a virtuous course of thought, feeling and action
a) virtue, moral goodness
2) any particular moral excellence, as modesty, purity
Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge, 2 Peter 1:5
