The first memory I have of a foreign language has to do with English. My mother showed me my aunts teacup. It was white and "I (heart) NY" was written in it. My mother said, "this is English, and it says I love, to say 'Te Quiero' in English, you have to say 'I Love You'" And I Love You was the first thing I learnt to say in English. My first significant memories of foreign languages occurred during primary school. We had a Malaysian girl in our class who returned there when she was 10 and would occasionally speak Malay (I assume) with her parents after school. In the last few years of primary school a quite pitiful French course was set up. We didn't learn how to write French - only vaguely how to say it - so when I attended my first French class in secondary school seeing the word "je" written for the first time threw me off as I was sure it must be spelt "juh".

You could ask around. There are no all-Hispanic churches around here but some will hold mass in Spanish like once or twice a week on certain days, etc. Ask around! I personally don't like the sound of Spanish so it's not for me. I'm not religious but I attended church services in Finland and almost went to a "teebussi" (Christian youth tea bus) just to hear the language. I wonder if I can recite the Lord's Prayer by now? Isä meidän, joka olet taivaassa ... Don't remember the rest xD Although I've forgotten it in English by now, too. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||||||||

I actually found one!! :P It's in the city but it's definitely worth the drive. I also found a Spanish radio station! (REALLY RARE for this far up north) :D I'm so pumped.

My first foreign language memory (and one of my first in general) is from when I was about five years old when I used to be bilingual to an extent. My uncle and aunt from France visited us. My uncle was picking on me in the car, and I yelled out, "LAISSE-MOI TRANQUILLE!!!" and everyone in the car got quiet. It was hilarious! :D
