Wow, I had no idea so many people were interested in learning Irish. I think I've read that it's be related to Basque, which is a notoriously difficult language... is this true? I'd love to see a language profile for Irish on the site, you guys should collaborate on it!
Anyway, congratulations on your progress in what must be a very difficult language!

As far as I am aware Basque has no demonstrable proven link with any other living language and what debate there is does not to my knowledge encompass any of the Celtic tongues.

Andy, you're absolutely right, I should have looked into it before making such an unfounded assertion. What I had remembered reading was that there is some shared vocabulary, not that the Basque and Celtic languages are related in any way. I was just reading about the unusual word order of Celtic languages in The Power of Babel, and this must have somehow given me the impression that the group is non-Indoeuropean. I think that was the source of my misconception.
