I finished my review of Assimil French yesterday and I've added tons of advanced Hebrew vocabulary to anki. I'm on lesson 15 or so of Pimsleur Russian 2. I've of course been watching TV only in Hebrew and been listening to music in my target languages only.
I'm having a difficult time choosing which language to add for next year, so I've decided to just let myself dabble in other languages as long as I complete my scheduled tasks for the day in my target languages. My goals for next year are somewhat lofty anyway: I'd like to finally perfect my Hebrew and reach basic fluency in French and Russian. Based on some faulty calculations I've determined that I'll have to study an average of 5 hours per day, which is doable if you count the weekends, but highly unlikely. I also have the nasty habit of being a perfectionist, so my definition of fluency is outrageous. I probably won't have enough time to add another language, but I'll definitely let myself dabble (I'd really like to learn the Georgian alphabet and some Chinese characters right now for example.) If i were you I would add Mandarin , because if you want to do business or become a translator in one day !

Good luck with your languages. Your English seems fine, but if you ever have any questions, feel free to send me a pm. I'd really like to add Mandarin, but realistically, my Hebrew hasn't reached a near native level yet, and I'm still a beginner in French and Russian. I'm going to just let myself dabble a bit with Chinese characters if I finish my daily tasks in my target languages. So, last night I watched Est-Ouest, which is in French and Russian. I really felt that I understood a lot of the French (and even a bit of the Russian) so this is a bit of a milestone for me. I'm going to try to watch one French program per day for now on. I also thought about doing another review of French with Ease. I sort of spent all of my allotted money for language learning materials on jewelry and my recent trips. I also have Pimsleur French and I can review Michel Thomas so all is not lost. I've been SRSing tons of advanced Hebrew vocabulary and watching tons of TV shows. Good luck with Modern Hebrew and wish you to reach native speaker level
you can study Mandarin like two characters per day(and if you've time 2 pages from your course's book) ( I'll do it from Next Jan/2011) there are a lot of resources like colloquial , Assimil which has a book about characters , I'm not expert in mandarin's materials but that's what I've heard , anyway I wish you again the best of luck with your languages . Thanks. I'm really interested in Mandarin because I'd like to learn more about Chinese culture and there are a lot of learning materials out there now. Everywhere I've ever lived in my life, I've been surrounded by "Chinese" (mostly Cantonese though) speakers. I'm always trying to find a balance between quality and quantity though (I want both!) and I don't think it is possible for me to reach my goals in Russian next year if I spend too much time on Mandarin. I may take your advice and try to learn a couple of characters a day mid-2011. The writing system is fascinating.
So today I bought Assimil Russian, Using French, and a textbook for intermediate Hebrew, even though I said the other day I wasn't going to. I watched Monsieur Ibrahim last night, which was excellent. I'm still adding a lot of vocabulary to my SRS and watching way too much Israeli TV. 2 persons have voted this message useful | |||

DaraghM: Yeah, it's the French version. I'm hoping my French is up to the task.
So it's the 1st day of December (happy hanukah btw) and this month is going to be my warm up month for TAC 2011. I basically want to complete all of the beginner's resources for French and Russian that I currently have in my arsenal. My plan is to review Michel Thomas for both languages (beginning, advanced, and vocabulary courses) I'd like to do another scan of Assimil French and add anything I think I may forget to anki. I'd like to complete Pimsleur Russian and French I want to keep up with all the passive listening I've been doing this year. For Hebrew I'm just going to keep doing what I've been doing.
