Yeah, L'auberge Espagnole is made up of a least three languages (plus Dutch), so it's not even 50% in Spanish, and most of these are foreign accents.
I haven't heard from Bramsterdam either, last time I checked he still didn't have a log. Maybe we should send him a private message? And don't feel like you have to hurry up on Princeton, it's mostly review for me, that's why I'm going fast. It still takes me between 2 and 3 hours per lesson, counting inputting vocab into Anki, though. In my Russian grammar book each lesson takes me 1 hour. Thanks for the support Sprachjunge. I'm actually in the worst period of the semester at the moment, 4 weeks left, 4
major assignments due. It's absolutely killing my language studies. But i just need to keep reminding myself that after this month, i'll have two weeks off, and then only 1 semester left until i'm finished. Which will be an amazing day indeed. So just need to keep doing the languages daily, even if it's only for an hour a day, then go crazy when i have free time again. So much good luck and support to you and your language studies once uni starts back up again. Hope it doesn't interfere with your goals in the slightest. 21.01.10 was a Spanish day.
Spanish: -reviewed all Anki cards -one audio clip: Audiria "Las compras" German: -one writing sample: ,,The Dhammapada" -reviewed all Anki cards I would like to talk about two things: First, I have to tweak something here. When I first got Anki, I set the limit to 200 new cards a day per deck. I have no idea what I was thinking. Lately, reviewing my Anki cards has comprised the meat of my grammar study, and that just isn't going to work. It is nice to get through so much vocab, but I really won't have that kind of time to burn when the semester starts. So, back to 25 new cards max for each deck (there are three: Cards, which includes German and other things I'm learning, Spanish, and Russian). Second, a little victory! (Oh gosh, this is just for me, for anyone who really knows Spanish and listens to what I listened to, you'll laugh at me over the internets. Quabazaa, I'm looking at you, kid.) However: My audio comprehension of Spanish is quite poor. Especially humbling are the Audiria clips, which I think do a fantastic job of putting authentic Spanish conversation--with all of the slurring, fumbling over words, and slang--in their podcasts. In fact, today I was all geared up to write: "Survey: For people who use Audiria, how many people consistently understand the male speaker? Is it just me?" But I suppose it is just me, because today I understood the clip! Not 100%. And I still don't feel psychologically relaxed listening to the language, confident that I'll understand it. But today I understood 95% of that clip without the transcript. I know, it's a little pathetic--"Las Compras." But here is my little record of the event. 200 NEW words!!! Yeah, with twenty new words a day you can easily get to 150 words due some days, especially if you skip a day. I just don't see how it's even possible to do 200, except of course if you already know them and it's just a question of entering them.
I haven't tried the Audiria clips yet, right now on LingQ I'm into "Historias cortas de Eduardo Galleano". They're really short and slow, so once you get used to the guy's accent it's fine, and they're real literary short stories. Did you understand 95% of the words or the meaning? In any case, it sounds pretty good to me. Oh, and what level did you set your LingQ on? Mine is on Intermediate 2. I put it on 1 first but there doesn't seem to be that much of a difference in what they offer you. 50 weeks to go... just think of what we can learn in all that time! 1 person has voted this message useful | |

22.01.10 was a German day.
German: -reviewed maybe 10 Anki cards -read maybe 2 pages of my book Spanish: -two audio clips: Spanish: Read and Think: Reviewed "El rodeo y los 'huasos" and "De tapeo" -one writing sample on Lang-8: "De Tapeo" Today was intentionally a light day. I listened to a lot of German--shows, podcasts, music. Well, that's what I do every day, changing the language, but usually I then do some type of deliberate study in addition. But today it was just the language ambience, time to reflect and plan. I also go back to university tomorrow, 23.01.10. I'm MEGA-EXCITED! Wish me luck. 1 person has voted this message useful | |
