What a nice thread this is.

It's hard to find good lyrics with good melody at the same time these days, because all of the rappers want to be gangsters now. I don't mind some swearing in rap, but rapping about being tough, money and women over and over is just so low, when you have these guys who do modern day poetry with great music and manage to do their songs with no swearwords at all to an extent that I am constantly amazed how someone can twist around the language so well.

anyways my 2 cents of some good old school rap:

German:

I'm surprised no one mentioned Fettes Brot! Those guys really are modern day poets!

Someone tell me if this is not poetry!:)
Einsamkeit der Klofrau
Jein

I really like Sammy Deluxe too, but I like his older stuff:

Wie jetzt
Mein Problem
Hab gehoert

French

MC Sloaar, a little bit of French poetry

Quand le soleil devient froid
RMI

Romanian poetry

Bitza

Razboi in doi
Aripi Frante

Czech

Chaozz, a little bit of Czech poetry

Jenom tak chodim
Vodopady (remake of TLC's Waterfalls)

Italian

Joe Cassano, well, not really poetry, just good music

Dio lodato

Russian

Timati (don't hate me for this one)

Rap in English makes my ears bleed and my muscles spasm. It's just... So painful to listen to. When it's in another language however... It's somehow not so life threatening.

French is good yes, but so is German imo, and in Dutch it is kind of cool.

I noticed there was someone asking for Polish hip-hop, so I bring you this list from my
favourite site for exploring new artists and music in general.

Haha now this is my kind of thread.

Yeah French stuff has an insane flow. Although I don't own much (or listen to it
extensively) I'm always impressed by French rap. It does make me want to learn French,
but I also don't mind listening to it with no comprehension.

DJ Nu-mark (of Jurassic 5) has a cd called Hands On which has a few tracks from around
the world. A few from the album:
German - schlechta umgang - crew
song

Japanese - Dj Nu-Mark - Hands On Feat.
Key Kool

French - Shurik'n - Samourai

But it probably goes without saying my favourite non-english is Danish. I have about 8
gig of it and it's hard to pick just a couple of tracks to represent the awesomness and
diversity of Danish rap. (and ones that aren't too offensive for a language forum)
However there is this track, which is one of the 1st danish tracks I ever listened to
and had me hooked. Bit of a posse track, have a look :)
danskrap.dk - så ka' I lære det

This one I really like to. Jeppe Rapp -
Nymfo

An finally to break away from Danish slightly, heres a nice Norweigian track
Dirty Oppland - Brekk Det Ned

Peace, happy listening, and let me know what you think.

Hey, I listened to some of Jeppe Rapp, really liked it, the beat's got a real west
coast American feel. Danish Dre?? I have absolutely no knowledge of Danish, but is he
rapping with an American accent, or is that pure Danish?

Yep, it certainly is pure Danish in that song. I just think that's how a lot of hip-hop
ends up sounding in Danish.

I'd also like to post a cult classic from the 90's which is famous for being in
Southern Jutlandic, a Danish dialect. On the other hand, it might sound a
little German. ^^

This is a very late response but I was watching some videos on YouTube and one of the suggestions on the right hand side was Zola, a South African entertainer from Soweto. He often raps in Zulu and Tsotsitaal (township slang that is a mix of many languages).

Mdlwembe
Khokhovula
Somlinda Ngengoma
Uzubuye
