That's right, the word-level alignments would be an incredible amount of work, I wouldn't dream of doing that all manually! I had the help of a forced aligner (fizzer was on
the right track with his suggested algorithm). Even so, there was still a decent amount of manual cleanup work required.

I'm pretty satisfied with "phrase-level" alignments that can be done by hand in Transcriber. It's actually enjoyable work, and probably educational. You listen very carefully
to the L2 language.
I encourage everyone to try it out. Grab an L2 audio and transcript, and fire up Transcriber! Tutorial

I got the first chapter of Pinocchio done this afternoon, after working through the learning curve.

I found it easiest at first to just make my "sync markers" at the end of each sentence, and then go through it all a second time to make smaller phrases (which got easier as it went on).

I hadn't been prepared, at first, for the fact that I had to continually use my mouse to place the cursor where I was going to make each next "marker" but I finally got that figured out.

I wish there had been a screencast tutorial of the actual process--it would have saved a bunch of time.

Now I'm struggling with the whole XML thing to be able to "point" to my mp3 and .trs files. I've got a website where I can load the files, and I've looked at the example "Alice in Wonderland" XML--but so far it's a little beyond me...

Not a problem, no need to worry about that stuff right now. If you want, I can post
whatever you have into the Library. It's not
really multi-user yet, but it's pretty easy for me to post stuff.

There are many software that can help in automatizing the transcription process. For example, you can use an mp3 splitter that auto-detect silence between sentences or paragraphs, to split each sentence or paragraph into a seprate file, then, using other software, link each sentences or paragraph in your text with its corresponiding mp3 file (e.g. sentence1 with file1.mp3)

[At this moment, I'm very angry because I'm rewriting this post for the second time. In the first time, someone "musii lil-than" thought that I'm promoting commercial software!)
