Last week was the first week of three weeks off for me. I thought I'd get a bunch of studying done, but guess what? Yeah, that's right. There's a bajillion other tasks I've been trying to accomplish before going back to work.
Week 5
Russian: 70 minutes (total: 11 hours, 40 min)
Latin: 0 (total: 2 hours)
*watched another 20 min of брат 2
*spent 50 min pouring over a vocab list and entering new words and phrases in Anki
The good news about the new vocab is that I went the extra step and did the Google-sentence-search method. This will be really helpful in the long run. It means that instead of trying to just remember a word, внушительный (imposing, impressive), I'm reviewing the sentence У петербуржца нашли внушительный арсенал оружия, In Petersburg they found an impressive weapons arsenal. Instead of just в том числе (among them), it's В Чукотском море пропали семь человек, в том числе четырехлетний ребенок, In the Chukchi Sea seven people were lost, including a four-year-old child.
Also, I didn't count this as study but we invited our вахта over for tea and she spoke non-stop in Russian for two hours. Phew!

Ой, the second two weeks of break went much like the first! Did do some studying here and there but didn't track any of it, so I'll just round study time down to an hour a week as a punishment.
Weeks 6 & 7 (aka the lost weeks)
Russian: 2 hours (total: 13 hours, 40 min)
*finished брат 2
*Anki
*one video off Learn Russian with Subtitles
*hmmmm, some other stuff that I've forgotten!
Latin: 0 (total: 2 hours)
Spanish: 3 (total: 3 hours)
*attended 2 classes
my mom says- "you're living in Ukraine! won't you get confused? just go with the Russian." But.... it's such a shame to lost what I've worked hard to got, plus it's fun to do. After several months of searching I finally found a school that offers intermediate & advanced Spanish. They don't even have a website, imagine! But it's been going great and I've committed to 4 hours a week of classes. Kind of cool to be so far removed from mi lengua materna, as everyone thinks in Spanish and then Russian and their thoughts never have to filter through English. It's helping me become more independent from English too.
Back to work this week, back to depending more on my planner and keeping better track of study time, yeah : )
Happy studies to all!

Week 8

*listened to a Taste of Russian podcast
*explored / listened to a couple entries on очень по русски
*Anki
*helped out at a kid event where most interactions were in Russian, but I'm not counting this in the total because it wasn't self-study
Latin: 0 (total: 2 hours)
Spanish: 2 hours, 20 min (total: 5 hours, 20 min)
*attended 1 class (ahem, skipped the other!)
*studied class material at home

Week 9
Russian: 2 hours (total: 16 hours, 55 min)
*Anki for 10 min every day... if the flashcards don't take 10 min then I spend the remaining time entering new words that I've written down elsewhere
*watched an episode of реальные пацаны. It's so cool!
*spent a couple minutes on various Russian-learning websites
*watched Eralash В магазине не было кефира
Hmmm... I notice this works out to less than 2 hours of study a week over the past 9 weeks! That seems kind of low.
Latin: 0 (total: 2 hours)
Spanish: 4 hours (total: 9 hours, 20 min)
*attended 1 class (slept through the other one this week, oops)
*Anki, same procedure
*studied class material at home
*took a proficiency test on bbc.com. Scored 75% overall: 83% reading, 89% listening, 48% writing (you had to write the exact answer, no variations), 79% speaking

Week 10
Another really busy week. My work hours have doubled and my boyfriend's parents arrived from America to stay with us for what will surely be two veeeery long weeks. They never learned English so that means two weeks of Russian only- blessing or curse?
Also, massive bummer, my Anki decks mysteriously disappeared and haven't turned up again :(
Russian: 30 min (total: 17 hours, 25 min)
*several Anki reviews
Latin: 0 (total: 2 hours)
*hmmmm, I swear I did some Latin this week! I even know the website I used but sadly somehow forget to track my study time.
Spanish: 5 hours (total: 15 hours, 20 min)
*attended 2 classes
*several Anki reviews
*30 minutes listening to podcasts

WEEK 11
The visit of the in-laws drags on and nothing inspires me less in terms of learning Russian. In fact, for a while I feared that I hated the language but it turns out {phew!} that's not true, I just hate interacting with them for long periods. So my Russian study hours are way down this week even though now we only speak Russian at home. 100% Russian, 100% of the time. Ack. (I might feel this way because our conversations always revolve around- why don't you have a grandchild for us? why don't you want to move back to America and live with us? don't you like money? don't you miss having a car? eat more meat, otherwise you won't be healthy! why aren't you wearing a warmer jacket?! and other crap like that. Ugh.)
Russian: 1 hour, 10 minutes (total: 18 hours, 35 min)
*Anki
*Helped the Тесть create a Facebook account using the Russian interface. It took us freakin' forever of course (he's in his 70s) but we were both really excited to create his account.... until we finished the set-up and then he was like "What? What is this rubbish? What is the point of this?" and then I realized that you can easily sign someone up for Facebook but you can't make them understand the philosophy of using it.
Latin: 0 (total: 2 hours)
No changes here
Spanish: 4 hours, 40 minutes (total: 20 hours)
*went to 2 classes
*Anki
*went thru homework/textbook from class
*completed a short reading on describing how things taste or smell
On a more positive note, the missing Anki decks turned up! Yeah!
