If you like cold places you should take on Norwegian too. We are freezing our tails off right now :-)

That's a very organised and meaningful way to classify the 20 languages that you wanna learn. Jia you! :)

Well first of all is a list of language I want to learn in order to gain access to resources for learning the languages on my second list. I'll only learn those languages on the first list as far as I need them, not that I really want them (as much as those on the second list).
1. English
2. German
3. Russian
4. French
5. Spanish
6. Mandarin
7. Arabic
8. Japanese
9. Persian
etc.
These 20 languages I really want to learn, but finding resources for some of them is hard in just one or two modern languages.
1. Latin
2. Ancient Greek
3. Sanskrit
4. Pali
5. Old English
6. Old Norse
7. Ancient Hebrew
8. Ancient Aramaic
9. Classical Arabic
10. Ancient Egyptian
11. Old Slavonic
12. Classical Chinese
13. Classical Japanese
14. Avestan
15. Pahlavi
16. Classical Nahuatl
17. Classical Mayan
18. Ge'ez
19. Gothic
20. Ottoman Turkish

The "essential" top 10, in no particular order, for all the usual reasons plus my personal interest:
French
Mandarin
Spanish
Japanese
German
Korean
Italian
Russian
Arabic
Portuguese
The bottom 10 are much more random and to be honest, I was stretching with most of this part of the list...
Dutch - access to Dutch-speaking parts of the world, and Afrikaans
Turkish - access to other Turkic languages
Persian/Farsi - an important language in Central Asia
Hindi - access to Urdu and other related languages
Swedish - access to other Scandinavian languages
Swahili - a main African language
Indonesian/Malay - a main language in Southeast Asia
Thai - another somewhat widely used language in parts of Southeast Asia
I'm having a huge problem coming up with 3 more, so I'd just add a bunch of interesting languages that I'll probably never find useful on a practical level but which are interesting to me, maybe another dialect of Chinese, Danish and Latin?

Arabic
Farsi
Hindi
Sanskrit
Japanese
Korean
Swahili
Icelandic
Sami
Finnish
Turkish
Malagasy
Hebrew
Cantonese
...however I will probably only learn 0 or 1 of those.
