The first languages, including those I speak now (at any level of proficiency) would
be:
1. English
2. Japanese
3. German
4. Spanish
5. Portuguese (BR)
The next ones have come to me through exposure of traveling (though, admittedly, the
above ones have also done that, but were already on my list prior to that exposure):
6. Afrikaans
7. Dhivehi (Mahl)
8. AUSLAN (Australian Sign Language)
9. Russian
10. French
The following ones would probably help me in my career/s, in some way or another:
11. Dutch
12. Italian
13. Mandarin
14. Continental Portuguese
15. Swedish
And the rest are more a slight interest rather than anything else, though I've already
dabbled (a very little bit) in some of them:
16. Japanese sign language
17. Xhosa
18. Swahili
19. Piraha
20. One of the Pama-Nyungan languages of Aboriginal Australians

One of the things I love about this forums is, how beautifully can people dream here. We all know 20 is really a lot, perhaps even for several lifetimes but why not think of it.
My twenty:
Those I have already good knowledge of, but still lots of space for improvement:
1.English
2.French
Those I am studying and really want to learn:
3.Spanish
4.German
Those I already started and want to come back to in future:
5.Swedish
6.Latin
Those I want to learn one day:
7.Polish
8.Russian
Here comes the limit of what is possible in reality. And list of my "dream languages" sorted approximately by priority:
9.Japanese
10.Welsh
11.Italian
12.Norwegian
13.Ancient Egyptian
14.Modern Hebrew
15.Portuguese
16.Danish
17.Irish
18.an elvish language (not sure which one)
19.Esperanto
20.Anciant Greek

If the genie in the bottle gave me three wishes and one of them was to be GIVEN fluency in any 19 languages I wish (other than my native language, which is English), they would be (in chronological order):
Mandarin (Chinese)
Cantonese (Chinese)
Hokkien/Fujianhua/Taiwanese (Chinese)
French
Italian
German
Spanish
Portuguese
Japanese
Malay/Indonesian
Thai
Korean
Greek
Arabic
Hebrew
Russian
Hindi
Basque
Malayalam
I know this has conjured up a bit of controversy in other places, but I have delibrately written Mandarin, Cantonese and Hokkien/Fujianhua/Taiwanese as three different languages, as all three of these "dialects" are incomprehensible to each other.

Without thinking too much, and including languages I already study:
Spanish
German
French
Latin
Portuguese
Italian
Catalan
Modern Greek
Irish
Russian
Afrikaans
Swahili
Anglo-Saxon
Arabic
Hebrew
Mandarin
Japanese
Thai
Hindi
Indonesian
Not necessarily in that order. I'll probably change my mind anyway.

Mark I admire you that you want to learn Vietnamese. Everytime I saw someone post they wanted to learn Vietnamese I felt a little bit proud.
I should say I'm English...but i'm currently learning Vietnamese and living in Vietnam and want to encourage anyone learning.
If anyone is learning Vietnamese and wants to message me to practise then please do!
