@ReneeMona: Thank you so much for the detailed response to my Dutch writing and speaking! I very much appreciate the feedback. I have one question for you, which I've just realized my grammar book doesn't explain. Are the two diphthongs "eu" (as in "leuk") and "ui" (as in "huis") the same? I think I've been pronouncing almost the same, and I suddenly realized that might be wrong.

FRENCH 10 minutes: reviewed Assimil lessons 67-72 & listened to 73 thrice. 15 minutes: did Assimil W2 lesson 17. French total: 25 minutes GERMAN 20 minutes: listened to German music. 90 minutes: watched an episode of Tatort. German total: 110 minutes DUTCH 30 minutes: worked on Colloquial lesson 5. 24 minutes: listened to Dutch music. Dutch total: 54 minutes TOTAL STUDY TODAY: 189 minutes (3h09) --- *ENTRY 52* (21 February 2011) FRENCH 24 minutes: did Assimil lesson 74 (W1) & 18 (W2). 6 minutes: reviewed Assimil lessons 68-74. 8 minutes: listened to "Fluent French Audio." French total: 38 minutes GERMAN 60 minutes: read poetry by Goethe (West-Östlicher Divan). German total: 60 minutes DUTCH 20 minutes: worked on Colloquial lesson 5. 15 minutes: studied the lyrics of a Dutch song, practiced typing them up while listening and then double-checking. 5 minutes: read aloud a Dutch news article. No, they're not the same. Eu is pronounced just like the French but ui is pronounced /œy/. 2 persons have voted this message useful | ||||||

Jinx, comment ça va avec tes langues? Dans les derniers jours j'ai encore commencé à écrire des messages en français sur Lang-8. Ça faisait très longtemps que je n'avais rien écrit sur Lang-8, mais maintenant je tâche d'écrire quelque chose de plus long tous les jours bien que j'aie du mal à choisir un thème. Est-ce que tu utilises Lang-8? Tu peux nous donner le lien à ta page, s'il te plaît? J'aimerais bien lire ce que tu as écrit.

Je ne savais pas qu'il y a une différence entre les trois verbes "essayer, tâcher, tenter de". Quelle est la différence entre ces trois verbes? L'entrée sur wordreference implie que "tenter de" est un synonyme pour "essayer", mais il est evident que ce ne soit pas le cas avec "tâcher de".
