Word of the week

With all the gardening I've had to do recently, I happened to learn the word "грабли" (garden rake) - a very useful tool to grab leaves, especially with autumn fast approaching!

Notes

With so many other issues spiralling around me, it's been an abysmal performance with Russian over the last few weeks. To put it bluntly, I simply haven't had enough energy at the end of the day. So I'm taking next week off, and along with trying to get back on the road to fitness, hope to pull up my socks for the last week of the 6 Week Challenge.

@Solfrid Cristin
You're far too kind, but thanks anyway. :) Vasilij Livanov (aka the voice of Krokodil Gena) is brilliant as Sherlock Holmes, and my understanding of the Russian is of course elementary! ;)

@Buttons
Спасибо, Кнопки. It's been a bit hit-and-miss lately...well, more miss than hit really...but I'm determined to pull myself up and out of my linguistic mire of shame this week, and hopefully do my team mates proud. Russian language, you haven't beaten me yet...in the name of KEN, I challenge you! >.<

That's the spirit - I can feel the bravery radiating from my screen! :D

For so spake the mighty Russian Language: I will surely reward him who fearlessly attacketh me.

Wanderlust confessional

Other than a brief interest in Marshallese (the Malayo-Polynesian language of the Marshall Islands), nothing much to confess.

Word of the week

"баранка" (а ring-shaped bread or dry biscuit) - simply because I'm hungry right at this very moment!

Notes

I'm much happier with my performance this week, although there's still plenty of room for improvement. Everything seems to be coming together, and I think I've finally devised a good study programme to fast-track my Russian over the coming weeks. Amongst the changes, I'll be including more music and creative writing in future, which are aspects I really enjoy! It also seems that both my reading and listening have stepped up another notch recently, as I'm able to understand a lot more now when I watch Russian tv or listen to fast podcasts.

Teango!

Big congrats on reaching the B2 reading level! I'm far behind, but I'm trying to follow suit and I know that hard work will get me there in the end.

Your post is oozing with confidence, so I'd say you're definitely on the right track and I see you're trying out some interesting new techniques as well.

It seems like the 6wc has done its work for you as well as for me as a boost for throwing in some extra study hours, and there's no reason whatsoever for slowing down after tomorrow, when it's over for now.

Cheers, aloysius! I'm sure you're much closer to B2 than you think, and congratulations on your impressive hours in the 6 Week Challenge and finishing top in Russian. I'm taking a little break today (as I put in some crazy hours on Sunday), but will be back on the Express bright and early tomorrow. ;)

Yes. You both did a more-than-excellent 6WC!!

@Teango: I'm totally impressed by your Hyper-Warp-Speed Engine. Once it kicks in, you leave everyone else behind in a cloud of awesomeness! And you also managed to collect some sweet power-ups too - Here's a B2 fanfare. :D

@Aloysius: 99 hours!! That's a lot of hours. Inspiring to see how you kept your fast and steady pace throughout the whole challenge (wow..both fast AND steady....it's like a tortoise on jet-fueled rollerblades). :) Give yourself a pat on the back from me, you're a 6WC hero! :D
