If it's your favorite, I hope you get a chance to watch the Dutch version Jungle Boek because the accents in that one are rather good as well. I especially like the voices of Colonel Hathi and Shere Khan. I enjoy your posts so much, and I recognize myself in so much you say. On a scale of 1 to 10 I am a 5-6 when it comes to actual language studying, but I am a 18 when it comes to study material hoarding. If I count both films and books and courses I must have more than 50 different Russian items. If we are talking study material in general we are into the uncountables. :-)

@ Kuikentje: Dankjewel. Ik vind het Spaans ook nogal snel gesproken maar dat vond ik vroeger ook van het Frans en dat kan ik me nu nauwelijks nog voorstellen dus ik hoop dat het met Spaans ook zo gaat.
@ Solfrid Christin: Thank you, that comment made my day! I’m probably a solid 18 on the hoarding scale as well. I bought an external hard disk not that long ago so I could finally collect all the materials I want but it’s filling up at an alarming speed so I’ll probably need a new one soon to be able to keep all of my materials. Yes, I’m finding Castilian quite easy so far. Thankfully, I’m not mixing it up with French at all, which was what I was most afraid of, but Castilian pronunciation is a bit strange to get used to after being so used to French for so long. 6 Week Challenge Castilian: week 1
I was feeling pretty good about this first week until I decided to check out the high scores on twitter to see how my score compared and now I feel dreadful. 20 hours, 30 hours, 50 HOURS! Are you all eating healthy and sleeping at regular intervals? Week 1: 6 h. 40 min. Total: 6 h. 40 min. Berlitz 02/20 Last week I predicted that Berlitz and I were not going to get on very well but I now realize that I may have been a little too hasty in saying this. The truth is that Berlitz and I hate each other, and I believe this hatred was born in just the first two minutes of our acquaintance. My main reasons for this hatred are: - The book is obviously aimed at prospective tourists and since I am not a tourist (and even when I am I still don’t like to be talked to as one), the dialogues are bound to annoy me. The one that introduced the first unit immediately rubbed me the wrong way because it concerned a tourist and a man (conveniently named El Señor) discussing the difference between a street plan, a map of the region and a book in a profound conversation that went one for two pages before the tourist left without buying anything. - The exercises are without question the most useless ones I’ve ever been made to do. For instance, the first chapter asked me to fill in the correct article for a bunch of words that were conveniently listed in the vocabulary list on the previous page, so I only needed to glance to the right to see what the correct gender of the word was. - The grammar explanations are abnormally long. The first chapter took out half a page to explain the difference between él no es and él es and then another to do the same for ella no es and ella es (and then made me do a whole page full of exercises to make sure I completely understood what was going on there). Okay, so I’m just whining, but I really do dislike this book and I’m considering giving up on it altogether. It all depends on whether the next few chapters are an improvement on the first two. Michel Thomas 13/83 Rather unexpectedly, MT is my favorite learning material so far. I often wonder why he still bothers to try to correct the students’ pronunciation because Dumb and Dumber seem quite intent on ignoring whatever he says. His third student is not paying too much attention to his advice either for two reasons: One, he teaches Latin American Spanish and since I have discovered that pronouncing Castilian feels vaguely like drinking a banana-yoghurt smoothie (my favorite), I look up pretty much every new word he teaches to see if the Castilian pronunciation differs from the LAS one, and two, I’ve been told his accent is pretty bad. :) Apart from these trifles, I’m really enjoying the course so far. The “stupid students to make you feel smart”-strategy works very well on me. I especially love it when MT asks us to translate a particularly long sentence and I’ve already given the answer before Dumb and Dumber have had time to say “uhm”. :) Assimil 02/109 I guess I needed a break from Assimil after finishing La pratique du français because it took quite some willpower to start on L’espagnol sans peine and I grew tired with it pretty quickly. Apart from that I watched La Sirenita (Spanish Flounder is so cute! :P), listened to several hours of Spanish music (not counted as study time of course) and worked on expanding my Anki deck with such useful words as “air freshener” and “flyswatter” that the Word of the Day service sends me. I was considering trying to write something in Castilian but I’m about to fall asleep on my keyboard so I think I’ll save the humiliation for when I’m awake enough to appreciate it.
