My experience is that when talking on TV, the French will double their speed - which is not exactly slow to begin with. If there are parts of the dialogue you do not catch, I think that is perfectly normal.
Why did you take up Hebrew? I had a few classes of biblical Hebrew years ago (it was the only Hebrew class available) as a preparation for going to Israel on vacation. I have forgotten what little I knew, and have had no need for it since, but I am still dreaming about going back to it some day. I love the sound of that language.

Solfrid Cristin-
That's really cool of you to study Hebrew. Did you go to Israel to volunteer on a kibbutz or to just see the sights? When you do go back to it, I'd be happy to help.
I've been studying the language for a few years and most of my friends are Hebrew speakers so I'm able to practice a lot.
Thanks for the information about French television. I just need to keep listening to native materials and I'm sure I'll be able to increase my comprehension eventually.
1/11/11
Pimsleur Russian 3 lesson 17 (I need to repeat it, even though I've already gone through it twice...those declensions, I tell you)
episode 15 of дворик (already watched the first 14 episodes over the past several days)
Using French lesson 46
4 or 5 hours of Israeli TV in the past couple of days (I'm starting to become embarrassed that I'm admitting this :) )
I really want to complete Pimsleur Russian by the end of this month and start a book in Hebrew by the end of this month, as well as finish my first (!) book in French.

At a Spanish course in Madrid, I had met a really nice girl from Israel, and we sat at a table with two other Israelis who didn't speak all that much Spanish, Naturally they spoke Hebrew together, and they would ask me to pass the bread or the water and thank me in Hebrew, so I picked up the first words there. We became such great friends, that she invited me to spend Pesach with her and her family in Rishion-Le Zion, which obviously was an offer I couldn't refuse :). I had the time of my life, and I am sorry I didn't have the time to do more with it.

Solfrid Cristin- I'm really happy to hear that you had a good time in Israel. Some cities there are really great places to practice Russian as well. I can't wait to go back!
I don't have my materials in front of me, so I can't give any statistics regarding my progress, but I think I've accomplished a lot. I am having a slight case of wanderlust now and I've made a deal with myself that I can go on a wanderlust vacation after I finish "Using French" and Pimsleur Russian.

just a mini-update so as not to lose momentum. I gave up on Pimsleur Russian 3 at about lesson 20 or so. I found it was becoming problematic: for instance, not giving the female forms of past tense verbs, and being a female, I was trying to guess what to say. Also the little vocabulary introduced was not so relevant or interesting to me at this time. Maybe I'll go back to it later, but I doubt it.
I just received an email saying that the monolingual French dictionary and my copy of Assimil Russian is backordered for several weeks. arghhhhhhhh!!!!!! I want that copy of Assimil Russian yesterday people. So I've decided to review Michel Thomas Russian Advanced and do the vocabulary course at some point. I'm mainly just watching TV shows right now. It's fun.
For French I'm on Lesson 61 of Using French and I should finish the book I'm reading this week.
Hebrew-wise, I've been keeping up with SRS reviews, speaking with people a lot, and still feeding my massive TV addiction.

I hope you will get finally Assimil Russian and you will be happy with it. I have not read Assimil Russian but I like Assimil in general.

I have Assimil "Le Russe" and I am quite happy with it. I assume that the texts are the same. Good luck onwards!

Thanks Solfid Cristin and Anya. Assimil seems to be the only textbook I can stick with.
I have an Israeli guest here for the week who I need to entertain on a daily basis. I'm really happy to have visitors, but it is definitely cutting into my language learning time. On the upside, I have someone to speak Hebrew with all day and I'm really taking advantage of that.
While he is here, I'm trying to just keep up with my SRS reviews and do an Assimil lesson each day.

French:
I finished "Using French" and "Stupeur et Tremblements" and I'm about halfway through "L’Étranger." I'd like to review "Using French" at some point.
Hebrew:
I've been speaking Hebrew all day for the past week, plus watching films and TV shows with my Israeli friend.
Russian:
Skimmed the Penguin course a bit and am watching a TV episode per day.
