From what they're saying (which I understand, which is not actually much,they're free and you don't need to register. They just give you links to other streaming sites. I didn't try them but they give a lot of links... I hope it helps. I doubt it though as I just googled "смотреть anime" and you must have done that before me... Just a quick update, I've been neglecting this log for far too long. I more or less keep doing my ankis and attending my classes. My backlog of words that I need to ankify is growing though.
I started reading another book, Рассказы и повести from Антон Павлович Чехов. So far it's been fun to read, very light and easy flowing, much more so than Записки Охотника by Тургенев that I've been reading sometime last year, and which I'd normally expect to be similar in difficulty. The stories are short and compact, which helps too, and there's few obscure words. I've been working my way through the stuff that my teacher hands me. One particular source or spoken Russian that she uses is http://podfm.ru/. There's a bunch of podcasts over there. Unfortunately I don't think they provide transcript, so I'm not sure how useful this will be to you guys, but it should be quite good for quick random listening. Somehow, I think via one of these podcasts, I got to a series of videoblogs and interviews with Сергей Мавроди. Essentially he's a criminal, charged with fraud and thought to part millions of people from their money via some sort of financial pyramid. He was escaping authorities for 8 years and then was sentenced to 4.5 years in prison and now he's out and talks about it. Needless to say, he has rather interesting stories to tell, what with all the criminals that he was spending time with last couple of years. Understanding the language used in his videologs and interviews is brutal. I didn't bother rewinding most of the time, but I don't think I caught more than, say, two thirds of what he said. It was an interesting exercise in understanding careless pronunciation with heaps of slang thrown in for good measure. To end up in lighter note again, I found (more correctly my girlfriend found) Russian dubbing of Around the World with Willy Fog, a cartoon that I used to watch when I was a kid. Youtube has some partial episodes, but not all, due to copyright issues. But it wasn't too hard to find http://fairtv.ru/serials/fog.html which has 10 episodes in one bunch. That's not optimal, but OK enough. The dubbing is decent, complete with translated songs that the characters sing, no voiceover. And last but not least, next week I'm supposed to deliver a short essay по науке и космонавтике. Actually I was supposed to deliver it this week already, but couldn't find the time to do it. When it's done, I might put it here to enjoy some public ridicule :) 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I guess it's time to do another writeup. Over the weekend I went over my backlog and added a ton of words that I picked up over the weeks, mainly from Чехов, but also TV and blogs. I really add few words these days. Per my measurement tool, I'm only adding about 1.5 words a day. I hardly ever need to use the dictionary to understand the point of the text, so less words get to my notebook, and correspondingly, less words end up being added to Anki.
I still attend both my native-speaker courses regularly. I hope there will be some sort of progress discernible at the end of the year, right now I feel like I'm not making much progress, if at all. Tomorrow evening I'll go to Russian pub with a couple Russian-speaking people. That might be interesting, the last time I had one of these Russian parties was November 2010 or something like that. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

To give a hopefully interesting twist to my boring series of "this week I kept on doing my ANKIs", I'll post some demotivators with explanations. I spent about an hour browsing them today, and googling stuff that I didn't understand. I guess Internet slang is obscure in any language :) So here goes:
link кэп here is short for "капитан очевиндость", "captain obvious". I think that the word "риглашает" is just misspelling of "приглашает". link Вера Брежнева is Ukrainian singer and you can commonly hear her songs in Russian media too. She's associated with a well known pop group Виа Гра. Russian pop can be pretty awful, but Вера Брежнева and Виа Гра are IMHO rather decent. So, how does this all relate to the image above? Well, that well-shaved apparatchik on the left is Леонид Брежнев, and вера Брежнева can be literally understood as "faith Brezhnev-gen", or "Brezhnev's faith". I'll risk admitting that that made me laugh :) And the final one involves cats! link Why "кот" here is spelled as "котэ" I'm not sure. It seems to be related to a cat in striped criminal-like suit with pop corn, but what that is and when it came from I don't know. But demotivators are full of that котэ. The proper spelling of that second word is "коттедж", with double т. The meaning is what you would expect from English :) Well, that's it for now. 1 person has voted this message useful |
