Szeretném a többi nyelvet újratanulni. Most - tavaly decemberben - a hébert kezdtem újra.

Minden nyelvben a kiejtés a legnehezebb. Az emberek 99 %-a SOSEM képes elsajátítani a helyes kiejtést. Nekem pl. angolul a magánhangzó az angol "man" és "men" szóban ugyanaz...

Barbadoson. Egy szép ház a tengerparton kb. egymillió dollár. De nekem nincs egymillió dollárom...

I listen a lot to kossuth radio. It may be boring - but as I don't understand every word or phrase, that doesn't bother me. So I form my "ear" to Hungarian and sometimes I even recognize some words I learnt - that's my personnal pride :). www.mr1-kossuth.hu

The reading is more scarcely, because I do not have an amount of vocabular that allows that (but I understand most of the time perfectly what you are saying in this thread). And more important, I do not own a lot of Hungarian books. I have "Egri csillagok", which is pretty difficult, some "Elle" magazine and a poem book. My kid book does not proved any utility to me. I can ship it to you, if you want :).

One of my dream is to read in Hungarian. Reading does help a lot in my language understanding.

Hi Kisfroccs

Can I ask you how you listen to Kossuth radio? It could be a good idea for me too to improve my terrible listening level.
Are you part of a TAC team for this year? If not, why don't you join the Hungarian team with me, Lapislazuli and The Stephen, I think you'd be a valuable member as you're very helpful.

I really appreciate all the recommendations you've given me.

Can you explain to me what is exactly the TAC Team? What it does? How it functions? I looked at the TAC forum, but I couldnt understand the logic...

Hello Hribecek !

Here is how I learn, but I feel it's highly unregular and disordonated.

1) I'm very busy these days (end exams these month) and do not have a lot of time to spend on my hungarian. So, basically, I listen to hungarian music on my iPod/ mp3 on my way to school or work. Edda, Bikini, Agnes Vanilla, Oláh Ibolya, Kiscsillág etc. I like them a lot, although I don't understand a lot of the lyrics (except for Bikini). Sometimes I come across a word I learned previously and as I know what they are saying by heart, I can translate a little bit more of the lyrics... and one time I get through (like Közeli Helyeken from Bikini)

2) If I have Internet, I listen to the radio while I'm doing my homework (of any kind). Often it's soothing and relaxing. I don't think I listen actively what they are saying... mostly because I cannot understand a whole sentence, but I understand a lot of word. Now I'm listen : zenei, kis, igen, száz, csángó, hogy... etc. There is some music playing loudly (in the radio), so I just understand these, but some times it's way more. So, never actively, just "passively".

a) it allows me to impregnate the sound and stress of certain words - of Hungarian
b) often they play viola or violin music... what I love. I feel that the rythmus of these songs are part of Hungarian/Hungary.
c) when I first listened to Kossuth Radio, I couldn't hear when a word starts or ends. That improved in the time, along the understanding. Most of the time now, I'm understanding what they are talking about.

3) If I have more time, I do some exercices in the "practical Hungarian" / "szavak, ragok, mondatok" or "Magyarul tanulók"

4) I underline the words I really don't know, put them in my jotter (separated with nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs /conjunctions and phrases). When I look them up in the dictionnary, I highlight these words, so I know if I search them again, that I have searched them before... and forgot them :).

5) If I have much more time, I put them in "vokker.net" and then review them. Anyway, each morning I receive a mail with 5 words to learn. I check them in the morning, and then (mostly of the time), forget them.

6) When I'm in the country, I do not speak a lot, my boyfriend does this for me :p. But that may change, with his family :). But as all the products are labeled in Hungarian, I learn them. And I ask him, what this or that word means, or if I'm right about a word.

So, I think, that is it.

What have I to do to participate at the TAC ?

Would you mind solving some of my doubts in hungarian alphabet and pronounce?

How is commonly read H?
I have written that it is read as:
german h(aspirated)
french "eu" or German ö and when it is at the end of the word it hasn't to be
pronounced.
Is these notes correct?

Which are the differences between "i","í" and "j" in the pronounce?

C is read as mute z (as Italian iniZio) ,right?
How must be read A?

Like a normal A?

Whereas "cs" is read as french "ch" right?

How must be read "DZ"?
Is correct as "z" like in "zone"?

How should be pronounced "ly"?

Which are the differences of pronounce between o,ö, ő  and ó?

How is pronounced "ny"?

Important,I didn't understand how pronounce "ty", like a "K"?
Finally, could you explain to me which are the differences between the types of u?

Thank you very much, I know these informations can be found on wikipedia, as a matter
of fact, I did this before, yet I wanted an opinion and clarification by native
speakers or by people who speak or write Hungarian well.
Thanks!

It's pretty simple really, it's basically just an extra motivation for learning a language. You join a team and within that team you give each other advice and maybe write to each other in your target language so as to practise and recommend stuff to each other. At the end of the year, you vote for the 'best' team - probably the most active or the most interesting or the team with the most improvement.

As I said, it's just for motivation to be a part of a group of people all with the same goal. There is a Hebrew one there with only 2 members at the moment so I expect that they would be keen to have you on their team if you're interested. It's not everyone's cup of tea but I don't see any drawbacks to it myself.

You only have to start a log in the language log forum with your team name in it and first you have to tell Ellasevia that you want to take part and which team you would like to be in and he'll probably add you.

Hi Zosia

The above message is evidence of why you must be more advanced than me! Your listening at least must be much better.

Thanks for all those tips. Where do you find Kossuth radio?

My method is only TY Hungarian, a little music and this forum! I'll be joining vokker.net soon but I don't have a new computer yet and there's no point me doing it at work because I won't have time.

You can read my message to Maxval about the Team TAC.

I hope you can join our team!

Steve

i í : i

j : *lle svájc : chveillts (= Schweiz in German), Marsei*ll*e

ly : même chose que le j

o ó : o

ö ő : euh

sz : ss (chau*ss*ette)

t : t

ty : t"lle" court. Un peu comme en russe la prononciation de Putin = Putyin

u ú : ou

ü ű : u

z : z

zs : j comme dans jeunes

Les accents servent à allonger la voyelle à chaque fois. Le ly et j se prononcent la même chose.

J'espère que c'est un peu plus clair :), c'était des explications à la va-vite.
