Day 15:
ཀ ཁ ག ང ཅ ཆ ཇ ཉ ཏ ཐ ད ན These are the syllables I have learned so far. Thanks to paranday's suggestions, I now have a real Tibetan input system, based upon the standard Wylie transcription system. I've also downloaded Turrell Wylie's 1959 paper, A STANDARD SYSTEM OF TIBETAN TRANSCRIPTION, and note with amusement how the Yale / Jyutping / Lau / Meyer-Wempe transcription wars of Cantonese are nothing new for Asia studies. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Day 16:
Practiced another syllable today: pa. པ I'm still experimenting with how to mix Tibetan and Western characters on the same page. I am also realizing that this practice is best done in the morning before I start my day. I've scheduled a set time each morning to do it before I get to work, in the hopes that it can place me in the proper frame of mind for the day's business. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Day 17:
Learned a syllable very much like the previous day's: pha, ཕ Despite its rarity, Tibetan is alive and well in Tibet, Nepal, and Western communities. Its study is promoted at many of the Universities of the world. I wonder how many universities offer Tibetan language as a major? If you want to study Manchu in China, you can do so in Harbin and Beijing. I wonder if you can study Tibetan in Mainland China as well? 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

The Exile Tibetan government and it’s followers, I believe, is also promoting Tibetan very strongly — though they
don’t go together very well with PRC. PRC do however have places where you can study Tibetan, I remember reading about some college that offered some kind of Tibetan programme and it was located far far away from (what was once know as) Tibet. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Day 18:
Practiced another syllable: ba བ While viewing this log on other computers, I see that the Tibetan fonts appear as rectangular boxes and are not visible. I wonder if there is some way to make them visible on a machine that doesn't have Tibetan fonts installed. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Day 19:
Finished another syllable: ma མ The hardest part for me is to slow down and make sure I've written the character as best as I can. This completes another row of the Tibetan syllabary. This row contains syllables whose pronunciation are articulated at the lips. These are known as the labials. As time goes on, I am slowly putting this all in a Word or HTML document(s), so that I can keep track of it. My current Tibetan resources are scattered in several places, but my understanding of the language is slowly increasing. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Day 20:
I added all of the articulation information for each syllable to a master file, and reviewed the Wylie transcription as well as the IPA representation for the syllable. It's difficult to hear the differences between the syllables. While my primary focus is to be able to read Tibetan, I will still need to know how to pronounce the word I am reading. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

There is, but only on web pages that you ourself control. Otherwise you need to convert the sext into pictures. If you’re using the computer often you can install a tibetan unicode font and you will be able to se the lettres there. If you prehaps have a homepage of your own and want others to be able to see the tibetan, you can embed a tibetan fonts using modern CSS technology. 1 person has voted this message useful |
