I'm another person for learning the article with the word. I prefer the definite articles le and la. For any words whose genders don't stick with me, I make up silly, outrageous, ridiculous, or offensive reasons why that noun is that particular gender. If it makes me laugh or disgusts me, it's a good one. I don't share this information with anyone. It's for my learning only. It's actually a memory technique Harry Lorraine teaches for remembering people's names. Forget logic. The more absurd and emotionally charged the reason you dream up is, the better.

Like others, I use Anki cards. If I get the word right, but not the gender, I consider it wrong and keep trying.
