I listened to Michel Thomas Spanish and a fair amount of Pimsleur Spanish I on
my iPod while briskly walking around town. It worked well for me. From a fitness
perspective it may not be as efficient as running, but for me it was more
sustainable than a higher intensity activity like running. I walked ~30 miles with
MT :)
I tried doing a similar routine using the audio materials from FSI/Platiquemos and
found it frustrating to do without the transcripts handy for occasional reference.
Now I just listen to target language music with clearly pronounced lyrics and try
to decipher the meaning. I don't look up the lyrics until I've listened many many
times and eked out as much meaning as possible without any external crutches.
Sometimes I also listen to target language podcasts or audiobooks the same way,
but I prefer music for exercise.
Edit: formatting.

This site sounds fun! I clicked "Request an Invite" and it said "We will let you know when Fitocracy" is open to the public. If I get in, I'll definitely join (and I'm looking forward to it).

I signed up for an invite too.
I watch movies when I ride my bike on the trainer. Putting in L2 DVDs is an easy way to
get both done at the same time.

I said I can provide invites :-) I only have a very limited amount though, so first come
first served, and don't share this anyone else.

There are alternatives to sitting out there. Standing utilizes more muscles and burns more calories than sitting: Standing Desk / Treadputer
Benefits of Standing vs Sitting at Work
So- "Get up! Stand Up!"

Oddly enough, I combine my fitness with my language, and a friend started calling it "Hoopanese."
I do hoop dance, or try to anyway. And I've found it easier to not think so much about the hoop to get it to spin on the waist. So I had been hooping while watching TV. Then I started hooping while watching Japanese instructional videos (Irasshai, usually). Then I was hooping while doing Pimsleur lessons.
So practicing hooping and Japanese at the same time = hoopanese. :D

My interest was also piqued by xkcd! Thanks for the invites Sprachprofi. I have a natural tendency towards prefering activities which involve sitting and thinking, which is why language study always seems to win over going to the gym. I'm not very good at multitasking so for me, trying to combine the two feels a bit impossible.
But I'm happy to try tricking myself into doing a bit more exercise by pretending it's some kind of game. The health benefits of moving around a bit more are obvious.
