Mnemosyne is the OpenSource branch of FullRecall; sort of anyway. |

Not even sort of. It doesn't use the neural network at all but rather an old version of the SuperMemo algorithm.

I haven't seen the research that convinces me to prefer a neural network over other spaced algorithms. As I tried to outline in my previous post, there are other factors that are probably more important.
I by no means mean to belittle FullRecall; it seems like a very good program to me. Just as there is more to language learning than flashcards, there is more to using flashcards than the spacing algorithm.

I agree on both counts. I have used SuperMemo for several years and come to the conclusion through experience that the spacing algorithm isn't really that important at all. A simple Leitner system is fine. I wonder if it might even be better for the brain to adapt to a fixed spacing algorithm than the other way around.
Fullrecall is a nice, cheap, simple, and effective flashcard program. And if you have a PocketPC, the PPC version is the only program that I know of that uses the exact same database file as the Windows client, so true two-way sharing can take place. Pauker claims to support this but I wasn't able to figure out how to do it in the short time I experimented with the mobile version.

As for Mnemosyne, from what I remember, in it's infancy it was connected to open source predecessor of Fullrecall (memaid?), it was one of the GUI's for it. Though correct me if I'm wrong. Last time I looked it implemented some interesting ideas, but is still a very light-weight project.
I use both Supermemo and Fullrecall, though far from being a heavy user. There is of course no evidence for neural network algorithm's efficiency against other algorithms, but....it's fun to use it at least. And as Pentatonic mentioned, Fullrecall is simple and effective, and cross-platform (with more platforms to come - web, maybe palm, ...).

I still have a question concearning FullRecall: How can I interchange all the questions with the answers?
For example from target language (question) to native language (answer) or vise versa?
All my cards are in French and I have to search the German equivalent, but I want it the other way round.

(BACK UP YOUR COLLECTION FIRST!!)
Delete the elements.bin file. Open the elements.xml file in a text editor (notepad will do). The questions are in the format:
<Q>question</Q>
<A>answer</A>
so do a search for Q> and replace with Z>. Do a search for A> and replace with Q> and then do a search for Z> and replace with A>. The end result should be:
<A>question</A>
<Q>answer</Q>
and now your cards are reversed. Save elements.xml and open FullRecall and it will recreate the elements.bin file.

Thanks for your reply, pentatonic. Unfortunately, this takes as much time (if not more) than changing the words one by one in the program itself with the "Q-A replace" button.
I wonder why this button does not work for the whole database.

How many items do you have?
This takes 1-2 minutes, whereas I can imagine if doing that manually one by one through FR replace button, I would only manage a very small number of items in same time.
Anyway...post a feature request to Dawid, FR author, either through contact form or on FR forum, I'm sure he will consider it and most probably even implement it soon.
