Somewhere in this thread, it says that parallel books count, but you have to count only the pages in the target language.
It also said that LR can count as either book or movie. So you can chose to count it as book(s) following the rules on the length of books, or you can count it as movie(s) with 90 minutes counting as a movie.

I'd also love to participate with japanese... although maybe the reading bit will be a
bit difficult. I'll be living in Japan soon though so the films bit should be quite easy
aswell as getting stuff to read.

What are other beginners doing for the book count?
I'm strongly considering counting each book as a book, even if it may not be 100 pages. Many of my books are at
around 80 pages. I do have some (harry potter et al) that are over 100. The first HP book is 400 I think, so in
counting a book as a book it will make it easier for me and probably average out in the end.
It is very ifficult to find books that are simple enough for me to be able to read easily but still over 100 pages. I am
considering tracking down some french language YA books to fill the gap, but they're still going to be difficult if the
first few pages of HP are anything to go by.
I'll soon see though.

Spanish it is! This will fit in nicely with my studies. I have access to plenty of books & movies since I work in a library :). I've already started a list with a nice mix of juvenile, teen, & adult titles that I will gather up next week.

I am in for Spanish. Wow. This is going to be crazy.
Now I'm excited. I don't want to wait another two weeks!
EDIT: My split personality wants to do 50/50 French and 50/50 Spanish. Can someone please tell her to go away?

I asked and Cristina said it's okay to reread some 10-20 pages and count it as a full book :) I have the same problem with the books I own in Italian.
