Better they hate you than that they pity you; you can't stop people being envious, be
proud it's your achievements they envy and not someone else's. Leave the internet warriors to themselves, you know what you did to get to where you got to. If they really want to do as well as you, that should inspire them to buy an Assimil and get good at Romanian or Guarani, not be silly on the internet. I invite any person who doubts what I do to spend a day with me on my turf. Or a month. I have a public log in which I write, you can literally watch my Swedish improve by the week from my postings. It wasn't anything traumatic, but it kept me thinking for a long time. I shouldn't make the problems of others my problems as well.
Fortunately, nothing has really changed since then. I could have done a lot to promote my blog and myself in general, but... for what? Sure, after the video was uploaded, I got a few more hits on my site, but that's not the reason I write. The best was to meet a few new people. The resonance has been purely positive so far.
No, it wasn't here :-) (But I've seen such things happen here too!) It happened IRL only so far, where most people don't know about my languages and stuff. I mostly keep things to myself, to avoid uneasy situations.
Thank you, Cristina! I admire you for having such a busy life, such a beautiful garden, and still being so active here, supporting us all with your warmhearted posts. Thank you so much for your that. Your support is truly appreciated and we all schould take a leaf out of your book.
I was just flabbergasted, that people would feel intimidated by the skills I was hired for. I wasn't looking for recognition, nor looking out to make friends. It was all just about doing the job we were being paid for, and showing good manners... Thanks for your kind words. I'm the one using your log to keep myself motivated! :-)))

 First problems rising
First of all, I want to apologise for disappearing for so long. I just forgot to let the team know what was happening... Bad news, guys. The announced intensive course will not take place. It caught me off-guard, and it was like a slap in the face. I'm so disappointed, you cannot imagine... Apart from working, doing the housework and spending a lot of time to prepare for upcoming exams, I won't be able to make that big progess I was expecting to do in that structured frame with clearly defined goals and tutor assistance. Today I spoke with Amir, who had already suggested to have a tandem exchange (Russian/German), in order to improve our language skills. That made me reconsider my language goals for 2013. (#1) Swedish: I will have to learn the whole content of the intensive course by myself, in order to prepare for the placement test and to catch up with the 3rd course the next term. (#2) Dutch: Amir's suggestion sounds good, which made me think about dropping Dutch and picking up Russian instead. (#3) Russian: This is my favourite language, and I've been learning it for so many years now, without reaching fluency! Moreover, I have absolutely no idea about my level, and I don't know where to start. (#4) Tools: Pomodoro is a great technique to master the amount of work I face at the moment. "How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time." or better "...one Pomodoro at a time!" This technique helps, but it isn't well enough for scheduling language learning goals. Defining goals and planning in some buffer time is crucial to measure success when the TAC is over. Also, how to log my progress appropriately? The log on our website don't seem to be the most suitable option, and I don't want to start counting the number of words I know, or how many pages of a book I read. (#5) Motivation: Having a heavy schedule at university is really annoying. Putting in a few minutes every day to make progess in languages just work if you’re mind is free, ready to absorb whatever you’d like to learn. Sometimes I find trouble in clearing my head between books. Listening to audio files or watching videos isn’t an option then. I definitely need one or two days off... What a pity for the intensive course! It sounded like such a great opportunity!
When does the next term start? Did they give you a detailed syllabus so that you know what you need to learn to pass the placement test and get into the 3rd course? We Vikings are all rooting for you.
