Right now I am focusing on Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, and Malay. I know for
sure that I want to reach high levels in/"master" Spanish, Mandarin, and Japanese. This
is a general log though so in the future I'll do updates for other languages too. I am
also going to try to write in this log in my target languages often.

I've registered for the Super Challenge for 100 books and 100 films in Spanish! I'm
pretty sure I'll have no trouble completing the films part of the challenge but I'm not
so sure about the book part. Honestly, if I even get to half of that I'll be happy.

I am also doing the 6 Week Challenge for Japanese. I kind of lost a week though because
I was busy finishing up my last week of college classes for this semester and this week
is final exams. I'm currently reviewing what I've learned from Japanese For Busy People
I and then I'll (re)start on the next book soon.

Since the last time I posted on these forums I've picked up Mandarin seriously, took
some pretty good classes at uni and managed to get a good foundation started.

1. La Isla Interior

Spanish Super Challenge
2/100 films (214 minutes)
1/100 books (160 pages)

Películas
1. La Isla Interior (94 minutes)
2. Girls (HBO series) (4 episodes) (120 minutes)

Libros
1. Deudas De Deseo (160 pages)

I love HBO series. There's only four more episodes of Girls left this season.
They are already planning the second season. Since I started watching Girls in
Spanish from the first episode, I'm just going to continue to watch it in Spanish
first.

I also finished my first book! It was an easy read, freebie romance novel. I figured I
would start with something easy and short to build up my confidence. Of course, since
the rules changed so that 100 pages = 1 book, my plan to start with a short book first
doesn't really matter now. :p

I'm also thinking of joining the super challenge with Japanese too because, even though
I won't reach even 50 books in Japanese, I do plan on starting to read in Japanese
soon. I have some easy readers to start with and then some manga and actual books after
that.

I probably shouldn't be starting another book (I have so many that I'm currently
reading already), but I'm in an Irish mood~ so I'm reading Coelho's Brida in Spanish en
este momento. On the Japanese side of things, I signed up for a half super challenge
and I'm currently 40ish pages into a manga called

Super Challenge Updates

Spanish
3/100 films
1/100 books

Películas
1. La Isla Interior (94 minutes)
2. Girls (HBO series) (4 episodes) (120 minutes)
3. Jane Eyre (120 minutes)

Japanese
1/50 films

1. The Sea is Watching (119 minutes)

I absolutely love both movies: "Jane Eyre" and "The Sea is Watching". I've seen "The
Sea is Watching" before and was so happy to see it being show on my tv again so I had
to watch it.

7. Football Euro 2012 Alemania vs Grecia (1hr45min)

I watched today's team too but in English instead of Spanish because my brother was
watching some of it with me. I'm so glad that Italy won! Team Italia all the way!
Although I have been watching random Japanese tv, I have not been keeping track of the
time for the Super Challenge, so there's no update there.

Good luck with the Super Challenge, Lisa.

I'm also doing it for Spanish, but I'm really far behind. At the rate I'm going, I'll only read 30 books and watch 40 movies.

I'm thinking of doing Japanese in the fall, so what do you think of Japanese for Busy People?

Good luck with your languages and college.

Thanks Michael! And good luck to you too!

Haha, at the rate I'm going with reading I'll be lucky to even get to 30 books myself.

I like Japanese for Busy People. Is there anything specific you want to know about the
books? I like the layout of the book. There's a dialogue at the beginning of a chapter
and a good amount of exercises to reinforce grammar points. The only thing I really
have a problem with is that Volume I doesn't have kanji at all and Volume II only uses
some selective kanji but I get around that by writing the vocabulary in google
translate or a dictionary, finding the right kanji and including the kanji on my
flashcards.

If you do start learning Japanese, I would also take a look at Japanese Sentence
Patterns for Effective Communication. It is not a textbook but I have it and I think it
is a really good resource and reference. It's not just for sentences either. There are
verbs and adjective charts in the back which I use often. It is also a good book if you
want to give the AJATT Sentence method a try.

My new textbook has arrived and I'm very happy about it. Time to
give Chinese some more attention!

-Super Challenges-

Spanish
12/100 films
1/100 books

Películas
1. La Isla Interior, with subtitles (1 hour 34 minutes)
2. Girls, HBO series, 4 episodes (2 hours)
3. Jane Eyre (120 minutes)
4. Football Euro 2012 Italy vs Ireland (1hr45min)
5. Football Euro 2012 Suecia vs Francia (1hr45min)

9. Girls, HBO Series, 4 episodes (2 hours)
10. The Motocycle Diaries, with subtitles (2 hours)
11. Camino Hacia El Dorado (1hr20min)
12. No me iré sin mi hija (1hr40min)

Libros
1. Deudas De Deseo (160 pages)

I finally finished watching Girls. I had recorded the show but didn't get back to
watching it until recently. I kind of lost some interest in it. I wasn't expecting to
really like The Motocycle Diaries but I did! It is a very good movie.

Japanese
5/50 films
0/50 Books

映画
1. The Sea is Watching, with subtitles (119 minutes)
2. The Mystic Archives of Dantalian, with subtitles, episodes 1-6 (2hr24min)
3. The Mystic Archives of Dantalian, with subtitles, episodes 7-12 (2hr24min)
Stand-in Actress Maki-, with subtitles, Episodes 1-6 (3 hours)
Stand-in Actress Maki-, with subtitles, Episodes 7-13 (3hr30min)

The Mystic Archives of Dantalian is an ok anime, but it stops just when things started
getting good! I really hope there is a second season. I have too many unanswered
questions! I've also been reading some manga here and there but I can't count that just
yet. The drama Taburakashi started off a little boring but got really good around
episode 4 and continued to get better after that.
