This is easily the best news about Sanskrit I've heard all year. I've been thinking about learning Sanskrit for some
time but keep putting it off because I hate the available materials.

I can't wait for the Murty Library. Not only will it have Sanskrit works but also works
from all the major literary traditions in India. Sheldon Pollock who is the general
editor for the Murty Library was also the general editor for
The Clay Sanskrit Library For
reasons some have said are pedagogical, they have decided to Romanize the Sanskrit
instead of using Devanagari, however. Check out their downloads page to get sample
sections/chapters of many of their books.

I've never purchased a single Clay Sanskrit Library volume because of that hideous romanization. Fittingly, the Murty Classical Library of India will use the corresponding native script for the original-language side of every title. I'll order each of them for certain as they're released.

Not that I doubted you, but as I was so excited by this news, I decide to double check
by sending them an email.

I was informed that they are preparing a course for french speakers, but that it
won't be ready before 2013.

Perhaps they have their own wires crossed a little?

This might be the motivation I need to learn French.

Which modern language speakers resemble Sanskrit the most?
From what I have gathered it is Tamil. It makes sense to have an educated Tamil speaker do the audio for Sanskrit.

I hope the audio does not have a French accent in it. (Like the old Latin course.)

I'm surprised to hear that as Tamil is a Dravidian language rather than Indo-european.

@Randomreview,

True, but I am actually using what I know of some of the grammar. Compare Hindi grammar to Tamil grammar to Sanskrit, then you will be able to see the similarities.

The languages under Sanskrit in the Indo-European tree: Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Marathi, Nepali, Punjabi, Romany, Sindhi, Singhalese and Urdu.

I have no idea which resembles Sanskrit the most.

Here is an interesting article about Sanskrit being Indo-European or Dravidian.
