Montreal resident here. It seems we are legion around here..
I am originally from Quebec City, a small, uneventful city about 250 km east of Montreal.

I suppose when counting hours, one should specify means :) But if we're counting planes, then the whole world is pretty close.

I love trains! Unfortunately, they don't go everywhere, but I do enjoy the train between Steinkjer and Trondheim (2 hours). But you live way on on an island, don't you? So that must mean a lot of ferries and buses if you don't drive.

For some reason, I do have a driver's license, but I really can't drive.... I always walk or take the train.

A car ferry (if that's the proper term) (to Garten), 15 min drive (to Brekstad) and an
hour by a fast ferry (to Pirterminalen in Trondheim) is the quickest way to get to
Trondheim.

Where in Steinkjer do you live? In the town, or around Sprova?

Unless you're traveling to the other side of the world and have one or more layovers.
Then you can count in days.

Oddly enough, the quickest route between your location and Vancouver involves driving mostly through a different country to get here (the slightly smaller country to our south). Driving only through Canada involves adding another 10+ hours to the drive.

Driving through the Rockies is spectacular and is more than payback for all the wheat and canola fields in between.

I was always a big fan of Kingston when I lived in Toronto - it has the nicest people, and it was always our food stop on road trips.

Right now I'm living in the town on Nordsia, where all the other immigrants live :)
