I'm in Denver, Colorado. Not a huge German speaking area, but great for finding Spanish speakers.

I lived for a year in Winnipeg in 1977. Very cold in the winter! At that time, there was a very vibrant French-Canadian community, mainly in St. Boniface. Excellent French cuisine. I see in Wikipedia that 11 percent of Winnipeggers speak both English and French, and 0.1% speak only French. And it says that more than 100 languages are spoken in Winnipeg. So it must be a good place for language learning.

I lived for two years in Colorado Springs. Love those wonderful mountains, especially Pike's Peak. I didn't have time for language learning then, but CoSps would have been a good place to learn some Spanish.

I was just there for three months, but I returned back to Canada Sept.01
Maybe another opportunity in the future. I was living in Mooca at the time using the subway, which is hectic in the morning.

You will have the whole world dropping by in 2016 for the Olympics in Rio.
I wonder if anyone has any experiences and stories about language learning opportunities at the Olympics?

@alang Wow! That's awesome! I actually live very close to Moóca, I used to work at the Itaú-Unibanco HQ there, took the train every morning. Yes, the subway is just awful during rush hours. They're opening some new lines before the World Cup, let's hope for the best!
@tommus I hope I'll be able to attend some games, and talk to as many "gringos" (foreigners) as I can in their languages!
@Random review Indeed! I'm just SUPER excited about the World Cup. I've only been to 1 Brazil match in my whole life, and now with the World Cup I intend to go to as many matches as I can! Not only when Brazil plays, but in general. I love football and to have the World Cup here is just a child dream coming true =)
