Sounds promising... How does this method work? |

|
Basically it is a book with 1000 sentences in it, broken up into 20 different units. Each sentence is given in English,
pinyin, traditional characters, simplified characters and IPA. The idea is to go over each sentence around 10 times,
building up to 10,000 spoken sentences. The whole method that Glossika uses is known as the 'mass sentence
method.' Each day you review the previous 3 units, and record yourself reading the sentences. For the new unit
you have to listen to it and repeat each sentence, then you do a dictation exercise and check back through to see
how you did, and then record yourself for that new unit. It is quite time consuming if you don't have much spare
time, and it needs to be done on a daily basis (or every 2 days at the most).
I enjoyed it and I do think it has helped, but I won't be rushing back to buy the next module as it was quite
expensive and not really worth it in my opinion. The method isn't explained all that clearly, and there is meant to
be a 'training video' to accompany you through each unit, but it hasn't been recorded yet, and when I enquired
about it I was told that it will be expensive and must be purchased separately.

14/9/13 - Unfortunately i'm in a bit of a slump with Chinese right now. Crazy busy at work and will be for the
next month at least, and then not long after that my wife will be having a baby. Trying to do a little bit every day
just through anki, although failing even at that from time to time. Did watch a couple more movies. I will just have
to try my best to get a little something in all the time. Khmer on the other hand has been fine, doing a lot of
translating, been asked to edit a book that has been translated from English - Khmer, and still working on the
language book (time permitting).

25/9/13 - As expected Chinese has had to fall to the bottom of my list of priorities right now. Watching the odd
movie in Chinese from time to time and that's about it. However, with being so busy at work i'm doing lots of
Khmer translation, so that's one good thing!

6/10/13 - Continuing to progress slowly. At least having time to do something, trying my best to do a little bit
everyday. Hit 1300 characters in my anki deck so I am happy with that. Hope to try and hit 1500 by the end of
this year!

19/10/13 - Still not a lot to report, basically just updating so that my log keeps ticking over for now. Trying to
keep up with Anki and learn some new vocab/characters when I have the time. Just ordered some more DVDs from
China which should be here in a month or so.

28/10/13 - Up to 1400 characters, more vocab in anki. Listening to the odd imandarin podcast when I get the
chance. Currently cutting the dialogue audio from my chineseclass101 lessons so that I can just listen to the audio
straight up. Still really need to get more listening in. My wife is due to give birth in a week so things are going to
get hectic soon!

9/11/13 - Well I got a lot of audio cut from chinese101 which is good, and I have that in my ipod now. However,
my son was born on the 3rd and so Chinese has obviously taken a back seat for now! I was actually quite surprised,
because he sleeps a lot I do have some time on my hands, although I don't usually want to study as I am exhausted.
However, I have been able to keep up with my anki decks and trying to learn some new vocab/characters. I have
made a challenge for this month as part of the TAC team to try and reach 1500 characters. I'm sure I will be able to
get that far by the end of the year which is great as my original goal was only 1000. Listening will just have to wait
for the time being, Chinese is cool, but it's got nothing on being with my son!

26/11/13 - I reached my goal of 1500 characters! I think I am going to take a break from learning new characters
for the time being and try and focus any free time I have on listening.
