6/3/13 - Pims 29 and Assimil 100 done. Haven't really done an anki sentence deck but I think I am going to start
one, I have one with about 10 sentences in that I never really made a start on using, but I will begin to fill that up. I
have started trying to get up early and do a Pims lesson first thing so that I space my studying out a little bit over
the day. Trying to maximise efficiency! Spent some time on memrise again this week. Still struggling to force
myself to speak. Looking forward to trying this months challenge.

12/3/13 - Not a great week Mandarin wise. Finished Pims 2, but have yet to start the next series. Also finished
Assimil. Think I will now continue on through Chinese Made Easier book 2. Very little time on memrise. Did some
sentence mining and added some new sentences to my anki deck, also managing to do my vocab and character
decks everyday which is something at least! This next week is going to be quite a busy one for me so I don't think
I will have much time for Chinese, but hopefully after that my schedule will be a bit better! Got a couple of new
Khmer books to read so i'm doing a bit from time to time as and when.

19/3/13 - Done lesson 4 of Pims 3, and worked through a lesson in Chinese Made Easier. Continuing to add
words/characters to my anki decks. I am now at about 1400 words and 450 characters, so although my progress
has been painfully slow the last couple of weeks, I do feel that I am still moving forward and improving little by
little! I am certainly on target for my goal of 1000 characters by the end of the year, and I think also I will set a
goal of trying to have 4000 words in my anki deck by the end of the year.

1/4/13 - Pims 8, CME 16. Anki all up to date. Very busy at work last week and also will be this week, but
hopefully the week after that I should have more time for Chinese. I am feeling happy that I am at least managing
to get something done, even though time is scarce at the moment!

8/4/13 - Pims 11. As expected last week was very busy, but this week I have 3 freeish afternoons in which I
should be able to pound back some Chinese, and next week I have the week off so I am looking forward to that.
My anki character count is up to 520, and words around 1530. I guess 500 was a milestone for characters and so I
am pleased with that, and certainly the characters seem to be getting easier to learn. Time is really my only
struggle as family will always come before language for me, and so I have resigned myself to the fact that progress
will be slow but that's ok. Trying to just do something everyday.

14/4/13 - Pims 16 is done. Some of my afternoons ended up not being free, but still I got quite a bit done this
week. Lots of new words and characters added into anki, and all my decks are up to date. I have a friend who has
just gone to Taiwan for the week and he will hopefully bring me back Chinese Made Easier books 3-5. I also have a
friend here whose parents are in China. Chinese Amazon is so cheap, but they will only send to China. His parents
are coming to visit this week and so I ordered some movies for them to bring. Most websites the dubbed movies
cost about $20, on Amazon they are more like $2! So I have ordered lots of Disney movies. I think they are the
best because the dubbing is great on animated movies, and I know them quite well from childhood. Very excited
to have some decent watchable Chinese movies that I think should be a great help with my listening. Been
managing to speak a little bit more with my wife which is good. I think for the team challenge for this month I am
going to pick a topic and try and have a discussion on that topic with my wife. Need to think of something
challenging to talk about, and then I will see how long we can go without reverting back to Khmer! My anki decks
are now at 550 for characters (I try to learn 20 a week so I am pleased with having done 30 in the past 6 days!),
and just under 1600 for words. My only struggle is that I am not having enough opportunities to put the words I
know into practice, and so yet again I really do need to continue cracking down and forcing myself to speak at
every available opportunity!

22/4/13 - Pims 20 done, CME 17 done. Watched some movies in Chinese 'The Incredibles' and 'The Lion King'. I
could understand a very small amount, but it definitely helped remembering what the movies were about from
when I was young, and also having the subtitles in Chinese was really helpful. I am a bit behind with Anki as I have
had to come to the capital to take my driving test, and have really been focusing on that. I went for a practice test
with the instructor which was all in Khmer, and ended up translating for another foreigner who didn't speak Khmer
also. So in terms of Khmer that was great. There was also a guy taking his test who was Chinese, and my wife was
speaking to him and I picked up on quite a lot of what was going on, as well as trying to throw some bits in there
myself.
