Chinese or Spanish don't need to be a global lingua franca, but to be the most important in a big area.
For example, Chinese can be the lingua franca in China, Japan, both Koreas, Taiwan, Singapore and Vietnam. It is enough for Chinese.
English will be less important. It will be the lingua franca of North America, UK and Australasia.
Spanish can be the second official language in the USA. It will be more studied in the European Union, Brazil, the Philippines, Morocco, etc.
The same with Arabic, Hindi, Russian, etc.
So, there will be 5-6 languages on the top, not only English.
