Report for day 5:

Esperanto :
- Learn 100 new words (wordlist): only 55 words
- Do an Anki review and add new words from the previous day: OK
- Listen to at least 1 music : no
- Watch 1 short video : no
- Read 1 chapter of "La eta princo" in Esperanto : no

Spanish :
- Listen to Spanish music or radio for at least 1/2 hour : only one song

Today my schedule was a bit complicated so I did not get to do my Esperanto or Spanish. I still learned 55 new words and did my Anki review from previous days in Esperanto and listen to one song in Spanish just to keep "in touch" with the languages.

I should be back on schedule tomorrow.

Also, I am conscious that those reports must be very boring to read and I apologize for it but I do think it helps to be more consistent with doing some every day so I will keep posting them. I will try to post more interesting stuff every now and then though.

It's a good idea to have a schedule for each day. I have goals for the month, but maybe I should try to break it down into what I need to do each day. Some things are obvious; If I want to do 30 hours of listening per month, I have to do 1 hour per day, etc. But some I should probably think over how much I need to actually do in order to make it.

So I am rebooting my attempt to learn Esperanto and I plan to reboot my Spanish this summer. I am still unsure whether I will stick with it as I have a lot to sort out in my life at the moment.

Right now, here is my plan :
- 1 lesson per day;
- 35 new words per day;
- 15 mn of listening per day;
- 1 chapter of a book per week;
- 1 short essay per week;
- 1 conversation per week.

I will not post an update for this every day as I realize this presents no interest whatsoever for others (I still keep a chart for myself though) but I will try to post every week to say how things are going.

So this week, I have been working with "Ana Pana" for the lessons and using a lot of "learn Esperanto with subtitles - Story for children" videos on Youtube for the listening. I have not had any luck with finding a language partner on Verbling or Italki so far but I plan on going to a meeting held in my town next friday.

Here is my essay of the week :

"Saluton

I will write a more detailed update for the 1st week sometime soon but in short, I am very enthusiastic and will keep the same plan for next week.

In addition, I will try to do one Romulan beginner challenge everyday or 7 a week.

Challenge of the day
Write four sentences about a holiday you enjoyed. Where did you go? What did you do? Who did you meet? What was the food like?

Edit :
It would seem that I am quite lucky today. My Ana Pana lesson on the day happened to be on vacations and required me to write a short essay on my best holidays. Believe it or not, I did not know that when I "decided" to do challenge 8 today and I actually used dice for that. This subject inspired me so I decided to actually write my essay of the week for that exercise. One stone, three birds :D

Here it is :

Do, renkonti lin estis la plejbona afero ke okazis dum mia vojaĝo."

So I feel that I have sorted most of my personal problems - I still have to find a job though - and that I can now re-re-re-reboot my language studies.

On the Esperanto front, I studied for a little over a month last April and May and it went pretty well and I even went to an International 2-3 days long meeting in Ottawa which I quite enjoyed. However, I stopped studying shortly after that, due to being quite lazy. Hence the re-rebooting.

My plan is the same as before except that I drop the challenges (I will try to do once in a while when I am interested in one rather than a random one everyday which proved to be too much "pression") and that I don't feel the need to learn new words every single day.

On the Spanish front, I have not actively studied since I wanted to start Esperanto first but I have been watching the entire "Extr@", the entire "Avatar, the last airbender" and the beginning of the "Game of Thrones" series in Spanish without subtitles. I plan on continuing so until my parents visits at the end of September and to begin a more intense or active phase of learning after their departure at the beginning of October. I will be working exclusively on passive skills with a focus on reading.

All in all, even if I did not keep anywhere near my initial plan and now have to reboot, I am not too unpleased with myself.

I'm glad that you've rebooted your studies! Seems like you have a good game plan to get lots of learning done. I like
make very specific goals for myself as well.

Thank you Emily.

Esperanto Re-Reboot : Month 1 Report : Catching up

So going back to my Anki was not too fun when I realized that I had over a thousand due cards and of course, I had forgotten a lot of them (so I ended up with a lot more than a thousand due cards). I decided to do them little by little rather than in one crazy go and fixed my goal to 5 to 10 mn of vocab per day. I have caught up now so I am replacing this goal with the minimal goal of doing whatever cards are due everyday.

During my 1st reboot, I had finished the Ana Pana correspondence course and had completed 75% of "La Puzlo Esperanto" and "Mi estas komencanto" courses. I started back at the beginning on both unfinished courses but doing them quickly / skipping some time-consuming unnecessary parts. I am back at the point where I was when I dropped them now.

I also did a relisten and/or reread of all the beginner and intermediate material on Lingq, except for "Alice in wonderworld" which I save for latter. I was happy to see that it was a lot easier than the 1st time around and that for some of it, I was able to only listen and did not need the written text to understand. I tried L-R on one text and liked it. I will probably do that technique again if I find suitable material.

Finally, I worked with new material : I read "Esperanto Essential" and a lexicon and I begun working though "Bildoj kaj demandoj" but without the audio which takes too long to load.

So my current plan is :
- 3 times 30 mn of audio a week
- 3 lessons a week
- 1 chapter of a book a week
- 1 essay a week
- 1 discussion a week
- Anki everyday

Spanish whateverthisisness:

Still not really studying it but enjoying the occasional TV show in Spanish and counting them toward the Half super challenged. I am still watching Game of Thrones in my spare time and I am trying Pimsleur too (I have some moments in the day where my hands are busy and my brain is not so I figured I might as well do some listening and I am not good enough yet for native content). Also I forgot Isabel in the list of TV shows I watched in my previous post.

My plan is still no plan since my focus is on Esperanto and I am not officially studying Spanish.
