Spanish - I never really wanted to learn this language. I personally think Spanish sounds ugly, and although there is a large Latino population, most of them are fluent in English, and I've never found myself in a situation where I couldn't communicate to someone because they spoke Spanish and not English. However I had to take a foreign language and I was never able to get into German or French, so I ended up taking Spanish for 3 years. I'm still continuing to self study, mainly because I don't want 3 years of study to go to waste.

Take it easy. Would you really want to learn a language that you found ugly and didn't really need?

Point taken.

But for some people (i.e. myself, and appearantly RedRabbit), the sound of the language and its usefulness both have a say in how likely it is that I'll learn it.

My language today is Japanese.

I chose it because I wanted to watch anime / Samarai movies in the original language. I am still going because I am fascinated by the visual nature of the language and I am beginning to love the culture.

I don't have to explain why I learn English. And as for Spanish... It's just very rich and diverse, in contrast to English, for instance.
