Marc Frisch,

I mean, how can a language possibly sound like it's time to become a spy?? That makes no sense.

I was making a subtle reference to the Cold War. Many people during this time in North America did take up Russian during this time.

Then again, the Cold War seems to be a North American thing. Probably why you didn't get it.

"Hindi and Punjabi for begging.

Really? I have yet to see an Indian/brown begger in North America in my 26+ years of being here"

You are right. Not in North America , the millions of Indians that live in the streets of Delhi,Bombay , Calcutta etc. are not able to pay an air ticket for U.S.A...
Only people from High-Caste can go to the States . You'll never find an Untouchable , a so called "Dalit" in America.....

my joke was sick , but it was an answer to another sick joke....
Sorry

Okay Xtremelingo Let's go with stereotypes !

Canadians spend half of their time explaining to americans time that they are not British and the other half explaining to british they are not americans.

Hindi and Punjabi sound very good for begging...
German sounds very nazi
Italian sounds very mafioso
French sounds chauvinist
Arab sounds like it's time to put some bomb somewhere...
Hebreu sounds stingy...

haha   u r so funny

In my opinion, the most beautiful languages are Italian and Russian, but not just phonetically; I also adore the colourful expressions and rich vocabulary in those two languages! :) I also find for example Romanian, Portuguese and certain American native languages very pleasant to listen to.

I love the sounds of Russian and Portugese(and one day hope to learn them). Also, I have a good friend who was born and raised in Romania until she was three and grew up speaking the language in her home. I love it when she's talking on the phone to her mom and she switches to Romanian mid-sentence!

I love the sounds of many language, but I think any language can sound pretty unattractive depending on who's doing the speaking. I've heard beautiful Mandarin, but the stuff that's used in language learning cds are just horrible and nasal, sounds like an angry granny coming to beat me.

My list: Mandarin, Korean (NOTHING from N. Korea), Russian (male speakers...), Italian, Japanese(unless it's some girl sucking in helium trying too hard to sound cute), and French (mostly France and Canada based, not sure about other countries).

Vilas,

Your understanding of Indian culture and the caste system is poor. I would suggest you pick up a book on it, or make some friends from the region that can actually teach you a thing or two, before you make ignorant generalizations and demonstrate in public how little you actually know about us.

Yes, you can find Untouchables here. Virtually, every caste in India has their community in North America. This will be news to you, but castes don't necessarily imply any sort of economic position whatsoever. There are low-caste rich people, and high-caste poor people. Surprise Surprise.

At least when we come to this country, we don't bring poverty here. Unlike members of other ethnic groups (without pointing fingers) that live quite content and comfortably off welfare, begging, stripping and prostitution in North America.

So unless you have been to India, you really have no idea what an Indian begger sounds like, except for what you may have seen on TV. I can assure you, growing up in Downtown Toronto, and having visited many many U.S. cities I can tell you what an Italian begger sounds like.

No, I'm quite used to racists like yourself. Growing up here as a minority, you are not the first to insult my background or make false generalizations. I don't see it as a joke, but a racist comment disguised as a joke.
