Darn, I thought the Onyx HAD a cursor.

Would an external mouse work with an ebook reader?

The Onyx I saw was a touchscreen, but perhaps there are other models. Mice don't work with ebooks as far as I know.

Hey, patrickwilken, I just wanted to thank you for a suggestion you recently made to Cavesa. I've got "The Bridge" on DVD in the original Danish/Swedish and have been struggling for some time now to understand it all. I never thought about there being a German version until I read your mention of it here. Well, I just watched it in German and, oh, what fun! The dubbing is so good that it’s not distracting at all and I was able to pick up on stuff I couldn’t understand in the original. That's sure to help when I go back and watch it in Danish/Swedish again. Thanks for the tip, even though it wasn't directed at me.

Cool. It's always nice to know you can help a fellow language learner! I looking forward to seeing the second season when it comes out. I am currently watching the first season of Lars von Triers The Kingdom (Riget - 1994). If you haven't seen it's a horror series set in hospital in Denmark, with a pompous Swedish neurosurgeon. The German dubbing isn't great, but I love the humour and the constant moaning about how things are done better in Sweden. It would be nice to be able to see it in the original Danish.

I am not so innocent! I am toying with taking up either French or Spanish, but not for a year or two at least.

Cool. I just finished the second season of Orphan Black and passed the 700 film mark.

Here's some 4-way clone dancing action to celebrate.

December 2014

I'll post a overview of the year next, but first a quick summary of last month's progress.

In December I read 990 pages and watched a new record of 59 films.

Films are getting very easy for me to watch now; with some I have +99%, though with others this drops a bit. Overall, though I am now at a point where I can comfortably watch all films in an extensive manner.

I watched one German film Über uns das All (2011), which was an interesting, but ultimately confusing film set in Köln about a woman dealing with the death of her husband, and her subsequent (imaginary?) relationship with a new man. One of the lead actors is Austrian, and found his accent quite difficult to follow, but it was manageable. Nice cinematography. 6/10.

I read two books, mostly using Readlang. The first book "American Gods" generated more than 2400 cards, I've so far deleted about 10% of these, and am learning 50 new cards/day, with the question-card being a sentence with a highlighted word, and the answer being a translation of the highlighted word. I finding this relatively easy to learn, and get the sense that I am rapidly increasing my passive vocabulary. At this rate I'll finish my first run through the deck in 11 days, and then the amount of work maintaining the +2000 deck should be fairly light (at the moment I spend about 30 minutes/day on cards).

I spent Christmas with my wife's family in Münsterland, and was pleased that my comprehension is now getting very high. I basically follow any converations (so long as people don't start talking Platt!) and can converse, though my talking still leaves a lot ot be desired.
