Ok, as promised, here are are my goals for German this year:
Translate 12 chapters of a novel either from German to English or English to German.
Have 100 Skype conversations in German
Write 100 short texts/islands/dialogues
Watch 100 TV episodes in German (Movies count as 2 TV episodes)
Active wave on 100 lessons of Assimil GWE
That should do it!

Have you ever use a books like German Quickly: A Grammar for Reading German by April Wilson or German for Reading Knowledge or do you rely upon grammar books?

Ich freue mich sehr auf deine Fortschrittsberichte. Übrigens, was sind "Inseln"? Und wie weißt du ob deine
Übersetzungen ins Deutsch korrekt sind? Arbeitest du mit einem Tutor oder benutzt du Lang-8 oder wie?
Viel Glück!

I have seen April Wilson's book, but never used it. I have picked up most of my grammar through textbooks, sentence mining and reading.

Danke der Nachfrage. Das Konzept der "Inseln" ist von das Buch von Boris Schekhtman heißt "How To Improve Your Foreign Language Immediately". Es ist ein tolles Buch! Ich empfehle dieses Buch sehr. Im Grunde ist eine Insel, ein kleines, grammatisch korrekte, gut auswendig gelernt Monolog.
Ich werde Lang-8 benutzen, für die meisten meiner Korrekturen.
Viel Spaß!

Starting 1/1/14, I will be going through the active wave again of Assimil German With Ease. I am going
to dedicate about 30-45 minutes a day to it and try to extract everything I can from this second pass. I
don't expect I'll really learn anything new or ground-breaking, but I think it will serve as an excellent
review and springboard to improvement. I am projecting this will take about 2 months.
What will I do after Assimil? Good question. I have a decent assortment of books, movies and tv series
that I may resort to. Additionally, I intend to practice conversation on Skype at least once a week.
Stay tuned. I think this is going to be a great year for German! |

Good to see someone else doing Assimil German! (I just started a couple days ago.) How fast are you
going through it?

Well, as I've been sick with the flu for the last 5 days, I have not been progressing as I had hoped. I am through lesson 14 now and expect to get through about 3-6 lessons per day until finished with Assimil. Doing only the active wave really speeds the process up.
