The Now Habit by Neil A. Fiore 7. 仁的故事 This is part of a series of comic books that narrate well-known stories from China's history & mythology as illustrations of the Confucian virtues. Taking part in the Tadoku means that I read more Chinese, yay! I'm hoping to
significantly up my count of Chinese books, even though the challenge is only two weeks and part of it is taken up by my parents visiting. 8. Quiet: the Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain WOW! This book is amazing. I already recommended it to all my introvert friends, and some non-introverts, because the book has advice for them, too. Mostly it's a book of new insights though - new experiments etc. that I hadn't heard about and ways that the world caters to introverts or extroverts in ways I didn't even notice. Highly recommended! 9. 痞子哲学 by 王朔 (Filosofare randagio by Wang Shuo) A collection of short stories or excerpts by Wang Shuo. I bought this in Italy, so the notes are in Italian. They were very helpful, as the texts are more literary and more colloquial than what I normally read. Without the notes I might have been lost. While struggling through my next Chinese book, I finished this short German book:
10. "Durfte Brandt knien?" by Alexander Behrens This is a collection of opinions, newspaper articles and open letters about Chancellor Brandt's kneeling down in Warsaw in 1970 and the German-Polish contract he signed on the same visit, the contract that gave up the German territories east of the Oder-Nissa line. A very controversial visit at the time, death threats against Brandt doubled in the months afterwards, but now he is revered for it. I was in Brussels at a conference, which sapped away quite a bit of time and I'm still
not finished with my reports. On the bright side, I got to practice French a lot, spoke a little bit of Swahili and I had time to finish a Chinese book and start another while at the airport: 11. 你在天堂里遇见的五个人 by Mitch Albom (original title: The Five People You Meet in Heaven) This was quite easy and enjoyable to read! 1 person has voted this message useful | |

I looked at my previous 6 Week Challenge results, since I participated almost all of
them: Target: Total: 24h30 70h28 21h25 47h45 15h0 69h40 34h57 83h17 21h30 92h45 21h52 92h42 49h33 81h8 4h1 25h41 35h30 82h6 33h20 117h27 52h9 85h45 28h31 58h58 I think they are quite bad, and I'm currently already behind my yearly goal by 40 hours, so I will try to do a particularly intensive 6WC. My goal shall be >40h on target and >120h total. I'm counting on my work on LearnYu.com for a lot of it, because otherwise there's no way I could do 20-hour weeks and still work and organize the Polyglot Gathering. 1 person has voted this message useful |
