I think the following list would be most world encompassing
Spanish - Europe and Latin America French - Europe and Africa Russian - Russia and former USSR Chinese - China and Southeast Asia Arabic - Middle East and Northern Africa That doesn't leave much out 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Well, I've already got English & French, so next up is:
1) Swahili 2) Russian 3) Egyptian Arabic 4) Hindi/Urdu 5) Hungarian But realistically, all those languages are so different, so once I've got Swahili & Russian down, I'll probably go for either Romanian or Czech, and mayyyybe Arabic. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

My uncle is from Teochew. Generally, Teochew dialect (Tiô-chiu-oē) is regarded as a branch of Southern Minnanese which is more difficult to learn than Minnanese (Taiwanese) largely due to its richer phonology of 文白异读 (文白異讀), that's to say, the same character would be pronounced differently in different vocabularies or occasions, one is called "literary"(文) pronunciation, the other, "vernacular"(白) pronunciation. Actually many Teochew locals have tended towards speaking Cantonese as their communicating language in Guangdong province, Hongkong, Macau, & overseas. I guess you'll be a little frustrated by failures in learning Teochewnese (Mandarin: Chao-zhou-hua), if you don't have a good Teochew teacher to help you often. Of course, if you were born an excellent language talent, then it would be quite easy for you, no matter which language you choose to learn. 1 person has voted this message useful |
