Good point, it's as if people are more ready to study once a week for years than 7 days a week for a year.

This is so true. As Woody Allen says: "90% of life is just showing up"- including language-learning.

I've edited the wikia article on simultaneous learning to state that more explicitly. I'm trying to think of more relatable examples - fashion and subcultures come to mind, anything else? Feel free to add to the article too.
I guess the second part also applies. Around New Year, people are trying to increase their overall productivity, many also start unrelated projects like losing weight etc, and when TAC is one of the many changes, it can be overwhelming - both for newbies and for the experienced ones who enjoy language learning and know they will come back to it later. For whom it takes willpower to focus on other things and make them a priority ;)

I think we need to be careful not to confuse dropping out of TACs with dropping language learning. I, for one, hardly come to HTLAL nowadays, but I'm still learning languages. I just get tired of posting about my language learning on HTLAL. :)
TACs themselves are a lot of work. You do your language activities every week, and then after that, you need to take the time to log on to HTLAL and write up a blurb about it, or work on a TAC activity. It's extra work in addition to the language learning.

Every couple of years, it seems, I end up seriously underestimating the work involved in blogging about a particular activity, and seriously overestimating the gain in motivation it can give me.
