I'm getting interested in Romanian :) On Wednesday I watched a Tottenham Hotspurs match online on a Romanian channel and rather many words sounded familiar from Latin and Portuguese. At one point I was sad and happy at the same time - the commentator said that the Lazio - Fiorentina match had ended with the score 3:0 and I understood it. Since I'll now probably watch most Spurs' matches on that channel, I flirted a bit with Romanian yesterday :) the lack of materials is disappointing :( I might do that military-oriented course just for fun though :) it would be cool to listen to Romanian power metal if there's any:)))

Just made my first pentalingual (?) flashcard with the Q in Finnish and A in Latin, Portuguese, Esperanto and Romanian O_o Yeah, I'm studying the latter one somewhat seriously now, I'm enjoying it more and more... OMG

Ceau & good luck, Serpent! Romanian is a beautiful language and a good starting point for learning even more Romance languages such as Italian or Spanish. :) I've "flirted" with Romanian, too, but unfortunately at the moment I'm too busy trying to improve my intermediate Russian.

Since I got satellite TV, I promised myself I would watch Russian TV - but I understand nothing and soon stopped. So it's mainly English or French... and Romanian. No, I understand very very little of spoken Romanian, but it is fascinating to listen. I like it when it almost sounds Italian, then suddenly they yell Da! Da! :-D

Try watching soccer in Russian! (not necessarily Russian soccer, I know it often sucks...) At least for me it's less frustrating to understand little when watching soccer than e.g. news, the context helps much better here:))) I now occasionally watch matches just because they're commented in a particular language, mostly Romanian or Portuguese :D btw, are there any Finnish sites that provide links for watching online? @bela_lugosi: Well, my starting point for Italian will probably be Portuguese :) As for the strategy, there's none yet :D (with "seriously" I meant the time I spend learning Romanian :)) Just watching as much soccer as possible, doing online lessons and adding Romanian words to Romance/quasi-Romance flashcards in Mnemosyne :) oh and using Romanian on my cell phone :D actually I started using it for fun rather long before I decided to study the language:-) just got bored with German, English, Bulgarian and Ukrainian :D Edited by Serpent on 26 October 2008 at 2:22am 1 person has voted this message useful | |

Serpent, now you have no excuses (apart from the late hour): I am sure you will find Romanian streams for tonight's Palermo - Fiorentina, with Adrian Mutu on the field.
No Finnish sites that I know of for streaming. Be sure to visit the original Futisforum (or its "substitute", Futisforum2, which I snob, but has many more posts). For Italian your springboard could be Latin. Just make to Latin the changes that all Romance languages have undergone and you have Italian: - no more cases. Take the accusative in singular and the nominative in plural. - get rid of final consonants (the French went further both in written and in spoken) - make some vowel changes, often in the form u->o and i->e. Id est: lupus, -i (wolf): accusative lupu(m) (the -m was already very weak in Latin) Lupu (Romanian surname) Lupo (Italian) P.S. Where could I find some easy football terminology in Russian?
