Hm.
A) I've failed at finding summer work.
B) If I don't study Russian this summer, next semester is going to be very, very bad.
So I think as a matter of course and necessity, I'll end up having to do this. Going for German AND Russian would be nice, and I do have some interest in swedish. Russian's the only one I can see using a lot of time up, though. Basically, though, this isn't a matter of me studying a lot and doing good and feeling good about it. It's a matter of 'Is my first month of Russian next semester going to make me cry?'

I'm in. Intense Russian study beginning Friday. This may very well be what I need to become remotivated with my Russian studies. If I can understand radio broadcasts in Russian (something I've been saying I'd like to do for well over a year) by the end of the summer, mission accomplished. Also, if I find I want to, I may as well start seriously learning German as well. I've been saying I'll do that for a while now, so if all goes well with Russian, maybe I can make some time for German.

How funny. I deliberately chose an easy class this semseter so I can go back and review everything I've collected in the past year and a half for Chinese and finally take care of some of my French issues. I guess this fits right in.
In addition, I'll be spending time on Indonesian, because my girlfriend has finally come back. I might also toss in some Taiwanese because I finally feel motivated, but I don't have high level goals for that.
Everything else on my list will wait.
I won't be making journal entries, however, because that's time that i could be spending on learning a language.

I'm tempted to join in, been getting serious about Spanish for the last month and half, was arond an hour to an hour and a half a day, now im dealing with all the different tenses i'm struggling to be able to focus for more than 20-30 mins at a time. currently doing flash cards, listening to podcasts and using MT. Looking to get some books in Spanish to read and comprehend, so there will be quite a bit of dictionary work.
Looking to try and make at least an hour every day, and two hours most days. I usually dont time myself, but keep a journal of the things i have done. I think if i record the time i put in everyday it will push me to do more, and hopefully achieve a basic fluency by the end of the summer.
Dont think ill keep a journal on here of everyday work, but may have weekly or fortnightly updates on how i have progressed.

I'll definitely join this challange!
In fact, I am already doing something very similar to what the original poster suggested: To abstract myself from the fact I have over 300 pages to read by Tuesday for my Economics exam, every 25 or so pages, I take a 'break' and use that time to watch an translate Japanese shows.
Instead of passively staring at the screen, I've actually started subtitling each episode: translating, timing, typesetting and encoding the materials.
I am also in the midst of digitizing my flashcard collection.

I'm in. As the self-proclaimed king of procrastination, participation in this challenge can only be of some benefit to me.

Good thing to do (or not do),why waste time?
However at the end of the summer,I'll write a conclusion to this journey ,my feelings, thoughts and action about and towards German,the-soon-to-be-fluent-in language.
