I do not understand your reasoning. Consumer Reports always consider price to be a major factor. Your position is quite unusual. I also find it odd that you are not studying a language. You list German but you are not studying.

2.) The three volumes amount to a price of over 800$ for what you yourself said is only an intro to the spoken language. You would be hard to find people willing to pay this amount for a complete course.

That is the most stupid statement ever considering that Pimsleur has sold millions of copies so far…

Maybe there are millions of stupids all over the world.
It's other possibility.
Remember one of modern marketing fathers was P.T.Barnum and he said: "There's a sucker born every minute".
Pimsleur is very insteresting, but it is a rip off.

Producing a good language course is expensive, not in terms of paper, CDs, packaging etc, but in terms of the time needed for research. You wonder why there are so many rubbishy courses out there, well the answer is due to thieving fools like you who refuse to give authors and publishers a fair return for their time.
An author of another course got a bit of a battering here a coule of years ago but then revealed that she had rewritten her book to make it bigger, not because she thought it made the course better but because her publisher thought that it would sell better. For that she deserved all the abuse that she got.
The story of behind the Pimsleur courses is very different. Paul Pimsleur tried to create a stand-alone course and realised that he didn't have the relevant skills or the time. Charles Heinle bought the publishing rights, a while before Pimsleur's death. Had he not done so then the Pimsleur courses would have just been more junk for Pimsleur's heirs to chuck in the skip. Even so Heinle's company struggled to make a success of Pimsleur and from what I have read faced a choice of going bust or being bought out by Simon and Schuster. Wider recognition (and perhaps financial success) only seems to be coming now.
There are lots of courses out there that owe their existence to corporate greed. Encouraging people to steal the one English language exception is not the action of someone intelligent, but of an ignorant, uninformed, selfish fool. This thread needs stricter moderation.

I find it odd that you would care to discuss this rather than the subject at hand. FYI, I'm studying German, French and Italian. I didn't finish my profile last night. I don't know why it lists all my languages as "not studying". I didn't select that option.

You should learn to read. I said his STATEMENT was stupid, I never cast any assertions on his person. Saying that we would be hard pressed to find people to buy a Pimsleur course because of its price is a stupid statement, when we all know that it has sold millions of copies.

I addressed your main point immediately - but I guessed you glossed over that too. My last point was a subtle attempt to point out the inaccuracies of your contribution. I guess I need to be more direct.
Q: Did you understand my comment about Consumer Reports and prices or do I have to spell it out?
Please respond!!!

I find your logic terribly amusing. May I ask what a proper return is in your opinion? If you think that pimsleur is worth 1000$ then by all means spend your money, but don't try to enforce your idiotic ideology upon me or any other. Most pimsleur programs were recorded decades ago and the expenses of production have already been covered and a huge profit has been made. 1000$ is not a "proper return", it's mass corporate greed at it's best. They're the bloody thieves. Lastly, while I mentioned torrents I never suggested that I actually use them. Is renting pimsleur at the library the act of an ignorant, uninformed, selfish fool? LOL, who's the fool now?

Frankly, when the word "stupid" is being tossed around, I think the tendency on the receiving end is not to split hairs between the person and the statement.
The larger point is that regardless of how you may feel, using the word "stupid" to describe a person OR his or her statements is disrespectful. It lowers the overall level of discourse; it disrespects us all. You do not get a pass simply by using the excuse that you're only talking about a statement. Please come up with another way to express yourself, or take your comments elsewhere.
