My question is, should I continue and finish level two of Programmatic, or just skip it and start with level 1 of Platiquemos?

crylant, which path did you end up taking?

By the way, the LSLC FSI level 4 bonus appears to be missing the audio for unit 54 drills 54.21.11 - 54.21.31. Unit 54 had 3 tapes. Those drills were at then end of tape 1 and all of tape 2. Approximately 40 minutes of material.

I have gone all the way through Learning Spanish Like Crazy Level Two. I like it so much that I also bought Level One because of the comprehensive approach to grammar. Each lesson covers a specific grammar topic using conversational methods. Variation drills enable you to get comfortable with all of the verb tenses and persons. The vocabulary is good, but I already had a more extensive vocabulary through reading Spanish language novels by Carlos Fuentes, Pio Barajo, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Manuel Puig, et cetera.

I really like Learning Spanish Like Crazy, both Levels One and Two, because the comprehensive grammar review, one topic at a time, really solified my grammatical skills and enable me to engage in conversations. Level Two is particularly good for the Subjunctive (extensively used in Spanish), conditional clauses, and imperatives.

Unlike Pimsleur, Learing Spanish Like Crazy also contains a complete written text of all of the tapes.

I posted this sooo long ago. I'm so glad many others have now done it and can see I wasn't "marketing" like they said. One guy even went to my blog and said he thinks its the work of various writers, since some days i wrote long beautiful tales and other i just said hello and bye.

I thought I'd give my two cents about LSLC.
I'm using Pimsleur as well as LSLC. I find LSLC is almost exactly like Pimsleur in the methodology, but they cover different vocabulary and use the informal you verb tense rather than the formal that Pimsleur uses. IMHO, this is good practice.

I do agree that their website has way more hype than content, and that kept me from ordering for a while. If you buy their products, you'll get more hyped-up emails from their owner/manager/whatever-he-is trying to sell you products from competitors (that he gets a referral for). But I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at the production quality of the lessons- the speaking is very crisp and clear. That's my $.02.

Here's my thoughts so far.

It started out good. Nice learning curve, clear pronuncation. Then a couple of lessons later the learning curve suddenly becomes steeper. Like, suddenly I am asked to answer things that involve words I don't even know yet. I don't know, maybe I'm supposed to learn them like that. But it feels weird not even knowing what to say because you don't know a certain word like "office", because it hasn't been treated yet.

The male narrator and female speaker got replaced and I thought the new female speaker had a weaker pronunciation, talked faster so I had to resort to the transcripts and possibly even sounded annoyed at times.

Hi, Crylant, and thanks for your good wishes.

I personally, and most of my Foreign Service colleagues didn't like the Programmatic Course very much. By the
way, it was never finished. Many sellers push the Basic Course Levels 3 and 4 as a continuation. I think this is
a bad idea, since there is no connection between Programmatic and the Basic course; using Basic 3 to follow
on from Programmatic 2 is a big disconnect.

I believe, though, that the advice I'd give to someone using Programmatic would be the same as I'd give to
someone using Platiquemos. That is, work with each unit until you feel comfortable that you've mastered its
content, i.e. that responses come automatically. Then move on. There's also no rule against going back and
re-doing a unit if you find you didn't master it as thoroughly as you'd like.

Best wishes with the GMAT.
DonC

Hi Don,

What is the best way to get in touch with you? I emailed you last week regarding Platiquemos and still have
not received a response.

Jez: Yeah, around lesson 13 LSLC really takes off. If you look at it as a challenge and really dig in, you're going to take a LOT away from LSLC.

You're getting enough situational stuff and such a heavy dose of the tenses, that you can take what you learn and go start speaking to people.
