Has it ever occurred to you that, when getting acquainted with a new language, some words or grammatical features felt somehow familiar to you, even though they aren't similar to anything you've learnt so far?
I'm fascinated by how natural Finnish is to me. Apart from finding just about everything I've read about the grammar so far absolutely convincing, I sometimes find myself reading a new word and thinking something like "Aaahhh, of course! This is the word for x. Could there be any better word for x? It just sounds like x." - And I memorize them instantly. This has happened in particular for basic words like numbers and seasons. Most other words do require a little effort, but I can easily learn 50 flashcards an hour (haven't tried to do more than that per day), and it's not work, but fun. Though I've only learnt Indo-European languages so far, I had no difficulty in getting started with this "terribly difficult" language. After about three months of independent study, I'm approaching an intermediate level now. It makes me want to believe in reincarnation ;) What do you think?

With Chinese I've also found a lot of things quite natural...and the same goes for French. Strangely enough, not with Spanish.

I had practically the same when I started Finnish... although I remembered my previous life when I was small, and I remembered that I had lived in Denmark... I'll probably start learning Danish next year, let's see how it goes..

Some of my friends would say past lives. I don't know if I believe in that but I've had that kind of freaky experience with languages repeatedly, even with a language I don't study, just overhearing it it sounds extremly familiar although I can't understand a word (that language being Polish. Makes one wonder.
