Hello to everyone.
I'm shoked a bit by this topic. Russia seems to be the worst place in the world, that people are afraid of. It is not! I have never been to Moscow, though it's the capital of my native coutry, but I don't believe, that the situation is so awful.
Anyway, for those, who would like to visit Russia-I advise you to visit St.Petersburg, not Moscow. You'll be impressionned by so-called "white nights" and various architecture. Also you can visit smaller cities, like my native city(you are welcome!). Life here is not so fast, so peple are kinder and calmer.

Oh, come on, tourism in Russia is still a shock for an average Westerner. A neutral behaviour of our service workers (sales, cashier, taxi drivers) seems angry or even rude to foreigners (they didn't see "good old" soviet saleswomen swear with customers). I didn't notice this before an Italian - very diplomantic, patient, and trustworthy - told me: "'sti visi incazzati". I looked at the salesguy serving us, indeed his face was quite incazzato.

I guess, if someone gets frustrated by a racist passer-by, it's better to refrain from visiting Russia, or he/she will take personally all this mundane treatment that seems atrocious.

Of course, a good deal of them indeed are rude or get angry/pissed off for no reason, but most don't mean any offence, they just (still) can't speak neutrally in a friendlier tone.

It's not that Italians are much better. Those who work in tourism still smile, but as soon as its some bureaucratic or ex-state owned office (trains, airport, bus station,...), you'll get bored, unpleasant people angry at life and you. How dare you interrupt their crosswords or gossip reading?

Haven't been at this forum for ages and found such a topic :)

Well, being Russian, I've travelled a lot inside of my country and in Europe. What I want to say is that Russia is a very different country, unlike whole Europe which seems to be almost the same everywhere. Of course my opinion is based on superficial look at many countries out of the bus window, but in Russia all the differences are more visible when you come from one region to another.
Russia has too many tourist destinations, but not all of them are easy to access because of big distances, and that causes high price for the tour, much higher then go to Europe. Also lack of tourist infrostructure, like cheap hotels, causes many problems, so Russian tourism is only for rich people unfortunately. As you may be heard Moscow is the most expensive city in the world for a foreigner.
But as I've already said, Russia is VERY different and variations are in everything beginning from climat to nationalities who live in different regions.

So for Muslim tourists I advise go to Kazan' - amazing city, very rich, beautiful, Russian center of Islam.
For Buddists, it's Baikal region (not only for Buddists of course).
For mountaints - go to Sochi, wanna Europe, go St.Petersburg, wanna to see the biggest European city - go to Moscow , old true Russian cities and culture - famous tour "Golden Ring" - around 12 little towns in central Russia.

So, Russia in my opinion is more intresting then Europe, I'm not biased, I was really amazed by going around the country, especially knowing about the culture of each region (Russia is multinational country) and after life in Moscow, Europe just couldn't surprise me.

So in summary, Russia is like Russia, you need come and see, like anything else :)

Hello, to all. I like the Russian culture very much and I would like to visit Russia one day. However, recently in the news articles, there is a growing intolerence to foreigners and immigrants due to the economic crise. There are also reports that these movements are supported by the ruling party in Russia. I wonder is it really the case?

If it is true that there is growing intolerence to foreigners, I wonder is it safe for me, a Chinese to visit Russia? I hope that the conditions are still acceptable for a Chinese to be there, because the Chinese and Russian government have developped stronger military ties and the Chinese has sign a deal to buy oil from Russia.

One year ago I made a sheer mistake by saying that most Russians are racists and back nazi groups......moreover, I've seen lots of videos on which hardworking immigrants have been beaten up by a group of bald poofs.....however, skin heads are found worldwide.....it's not unusual to know about news approaching skin heads' moves here in Brazil......

That harsh world economic crisis will only increase racism......sadly.....

That's why I apologize to all Russian members of this forum due to my stupidity....all the things I have witnessed in my country made me write this reply.....unfortunately my country has no any right to teach racial awareness to the rest of the world......mostly after what that dork who tried to deceive Swiss Government to get money from them after making up that she had been "assaulted" by a bunch of skin heads....shameful!

I'm owing a special apology to Siberiano.....he knows why.....
