Great thread!! A couple of contributions from me, I don't think any of these have been mentioned:

Catalan
Sopa de Cabra-L'empordà http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6PNHbnsp7w
Sopa de Cabra-El boig de la ciutat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gpDEzJbALI
Sopa de Cabra-El far del sudhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIPrX3tT_aY
I've heard better version of all of the above and many more good songs that aren't on YouTube - someone got me their live album Ben Endins and I love it - these guys are definitely better live though...

Hungarian
NOX - Szeretem http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_A2bTG0ZZGI
NOX - Túl a Varázshegyen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuLyBvg0VL8
NOX - Bíborhajnal http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pRNNdVBiiUc
And lots more by the same band.
Friderika - Kinek mondjam el vétkeimet http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEYt1kd1K1g

Italian
Enrico Ruggeri - Sole D'Europa http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXUhWS1a9M0
Mia Martini - Rapsodia http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4e-jHnkYzM

Swedish
Cecilia Vennersten - Det Vackraste http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SH8W2jBb_4

Hindi - I don't know if this counts (they're from Bollywood movies) but they're kinda nice anyway...
Ankhon ki gustakhiyan (from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ph3tXOJubSc
Chalak Chalak (from Devdas) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qucvUBjKIPc
Another one from Devdas (don't remember the title of the song): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kes96NvJ2xQ

French

Hebrew
Duo Datz - Kan http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbPS_r2yvyk

I was surprised that Eurovision has only been mentioned once before in this thread - several of the above are from Eurovision, and though it may be an endless fountain of mediocre music these days, there's some really great stuff if you start looking through some of the older things. As long as you're aware that you're going to run into a lot of garbage while looking for the gems - happy searching: http://www.diggiloo.net/

Thanks, I'm not really studying Swedish or Hungarian right now, but it is always good to find more music in these languages.

Now that the giant spectacle of crazy that is the Eurovision Song Contest is over - what were your favourites, everyone? I know, I know, most of it was in English, and much of it was garbage as always, but thankfully some countries actually sent some good stuff this year.

Behold, Estonia, Rändajad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gf9NMrzNfWo
I just adore this, on so many levels... :-)

Others?

Estonia was my favourite, although I liked Bosnia too.

It's hard to believe that decent performers and song-writers used to enter the
Eurovision before it became the silly celebration of tackiness that it is today.

FRENCH:
This became famous as an easy-listening instrumental. It was originally a Eurovision
song from 1967 sung by Vicky Leandros for Luxembourg, who astonishingly enough came
fourth.

Vicky Leandros L'Amour est bleu video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tIH7mjqhkiw

Contest footage of the same song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nD4ib9-laGY

She has her revenge in 1972 with this.

Vicky Leandros, Apres Toi for Luxembourg

Here is a nice gentle French song from 1969. BTW the metal sculpture was designed by
Salvidor Dali for the occasion!
Frida Boccara, Un jour un enfant:

NORWEGIAN
Eurovision 1993. Silje Vige singing 'Alle Mine Tankar'

SPANISH
This came last in 1983, and was regarded as a joke by many Spaniards at the time. I
think she's an amazing singer!

Alright, prepare yourselves for more foreign music~

SPANISH
Los Dan - Yo te di todo mis suenos (I gave you all my dreams)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGQK9kEXy3I

Cuban pop/rock group from the 70s, though they still perform in Florida nowadays. Check them out, and if you like them, buy something from them (or even better, if you live in Miami, see their concert!). They're not sponsored by a major label, so they're not rolling in money or anything.

Tanya - Ese Hombre esta loca (That man is crazy)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2khOPLiohI

Cuban rock group from the 70s. She still has spordic concerts, I think. Once again, if you like her songs, buy them. They need support. :(

Los 5.U.4. - El Amor se acaba (Love Ends)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VzpQoDgmQ4
The only version of this song on Youtube. They're not my favorite group, but I very much like this song. Once again, if you like...

RUSSIAN

Glukoza - Schweine (Swines)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8txk6EhYZKA
Sneg Idyot (Snow Falls)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBH1Ub0wUwI
My two favorite songs by her. She's very poppy, and supposedly famous in Russia. If you've played GTA4 and heard Vladivostok FM, you've probably heard the first song.

Nol' - Chelovek i koshka (man and cat)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=apgMbpsrA1w
I can't say I'm fond of their other songs, but this song is amazing.

Zoopark
http://www.mikenaumenko.ru/album.htm
This Russian rock n roll group is easy to find mp3s for since they're all on Maik's site. Unfortunately, the group has been inactive for quite a while since their founding member died. Take a look at Mazhornyj Rock n roll; it's really funny.

Kolibri - Plastinka (Vinyl Record)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7acMECIKGo
This is an independent pop group called kolibri. Their songs are rather hit-or-miss, so if you don't like this song, look for something between different albums - the quality of the recordings varies with albums. I learned of this group from here: http://www.gromco.com/music/rim_archive/review/kolibri.naidi .10.otlichii.english.html
I really like them, but I can't seem to find any of their albums for sale. Quite unfortunate, but maybe someone with more Russian skills than me (and perhaps more Google-fu) can have better results.

HINDI
I want to Hold your Hand
(Full version): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bs1P5OF7ykA
(Partly translated): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bs1P5OF7ykA
This is from a movie called 'jaanwar'. It's amusing, but the singer seems to be having a seizure. It's very distracting and weird.

There are other bollywood songs, but I'm not sure if they are in Hindi or something else.
