I only have the Collins Cobuild, which we used in English class in high school. I liked it very much, but I can't compare with the others!

Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary (British Edition), undoubtely!!!
my mother fixed it a few days ago because its spine was screwed...I bought it five years ago and it has still been quite useful as well as its CD-ROM.... it cost me some USD 30.00 at that time....
sometimes I install the CD-ROM program on my friend's PC...very useful...

It depends on the language, since many languages (including several that concern me) are outside the bounds of the big names in English publishing, and even at that they are published or compiled by only one company or group of editors.
- For English-French I rely on Collins.
- For English-German I use either Collins or Oxford-Duden.
- For English-Hungarian I use whatever is published by Akadémiai kiadó ("academic publisher") - not that I have much choice since it's the only publisher of comprehensive and useful English-Hungarian dictionaries.
